The Yidden get ready for Matan Torah, and Hashem comes onto Har Sinai!
Moshe came down from Har Sinai and told the Yidden what Hashem said. All of the Yidden answered: “We’ll do whatever Hashem said!”
Moshe went back up on Har Sinai and told Hashem what had happened with his shlichus. He told Hashem that the Yidden were ready to do whatever Hashem wanted! Hashem told Moshe that all of the Yidden would hear the words of Hashem through Moshe.
When the Yidden heard this, they said “We don’t want to hear through a shliach, we want to hear straight from Hashem! And we don’t only want to hear, we also want to SEE Hashem!”
Hashem told Moshe that the Yidden would be able to see Hashem, but they would need to prepare themselves. They should make sure to stay tahor, because in 3 days, Hashem will come onto Har Sinai and give them the Torah! Hashem will make sure everyone who is sick or blind or has anything wrong with their body will get better, so that everyone can appreciate Matan Torah!
When Hashem goes onto Har Sinai, it will become holy, and none of the Yidden will be able to touch it. So Moshe had to make a fence around Har Sinai so nobody would touch it by mistake. When the Yidden hear the shofar blow for a long time at the end of Matan Torah, that means that the Shechinah that was there by Matan Torah has left, and the Yidden can go on the mountain.
Moshe helped the Yidden become tahor so they would be ready to get the Torah.
In the morning of Vov Sivan, even before the Yidden got to Har Sinai, Hashem started Matan Torah. There was thunder and lightning, and a big cloud on Har Sinai. A very loud shofar blew, and all of the Yidden got scared. They could feel that Hashem was on Har Sinai, and Moshe led them to Har Sinai, where they all stood.
Hashem picked up Har Sinai, and told the Yidden that if they don’t accept the Torah, Hashem will squash them under the mountain! The Yidden went under Har Sinai, though, because they DID want the Torah! So Hashem had the Yidden move away, and put the mountain back down.
Har Sinai was covered in smoke, and it shook very hard.
Hashem made a shofar blow first softly, and then louder and louder, and it didn’t stop until after the Aseres Hadibros!

Kapitel Pey-Tes starts with the posuk “Maskil LeEisan HoEzrachi,” telling us which person this kapitel comes from — it was written by a person named Eisan.
Chassidus explains that this name, “Eisan,” also has a very deep meaning which we need to learn from!
The word Eisan means strong. There are different kinds of strong — strong that it’s hard to fight with, or strong that it is hard to push. Then there is a kind of strong that NOTHING can break it or move it! That’s what Eisan is.
Every neshama has Eisan! It’s the part of the neshama that has the koach never to budge, no matter what anyone tries to do to it, and won’t do anything against what Hashem wants. That part is also called the Yechidah of the neshama, which is ready to have Mesiras Nefesh for Hashem!
In fact, the word Eisan has the same letters as the word “Tanya!” That’s one of the reasons given for why the Alter Rebbe started the sefer with this word, since it is the deepest part of the neshama that the Tanya teaches us how to wake up!

Hashem wanted every single Yid to be able to be a beinoni! That’s why inside each of us, we have a special koach called the Ahava Mesuteres, that makes us ready to have Mesirus Nefesh for Hashem. The Alter Rebbe is going to teach us how to use this koach to be able to stay away from ANY aveira!
In order to wake up our koach of Mesirus Nefesh, the Alter Rebbe told us that there are a few things we need to know:
1) This koach in our neshama ALWAYS wants to be with Hashem, and wants that even more than it wants to be alive! That feeling is usually fast asleep, but it will wake up automatically if a person sees that something is trying to separate him from Hashem chas veshalom.
2) Achdus Hashem: Hashem’s hiding (tzimtzum) makes the world feel that it is something important on its own, but really it is botul to Hashem.
In this perek, the Alter Rebbe is going to tell us how when we do a mitzvah or learn Torah, we FEEL Achdus Hashem! In the next perek, we will see that when a Yid does an aveira, chas veshalom, his neshama feels separate from Hashem.
In today’s Tanya, we learn that the reason Hashem made the world is so that Yidden will keep the Torah and mitzvos.
When you do mitzvos, you can FEEL Achdus Hashem, that there is one Hashem and everything is part of Hashem!

Today the Rebbe tells us about another maamar in Torah Ohr!
The Alter Rebbe’s maamar called “Umareihem Umaaseihem” is based on the first maamar the Maggid ever said when he became Rebbe (Shavuos 5521/1761)!
So for the Chassidim of the Maggid (like the Alter Rebbe!) that maamar was like Bosi Legani is to us!
The Alter Rebbe wasn’t there when the Maggid said it, but he heard it from R’ Mendel Horodoker, who was there! The Alter Rebbe later said this maamar also, and explained it in his own way.
Are you confused why yesterday we talked about a Beshalach maamar from Likutei Torah, and today we are talking about a Yisro maamar in Torah Ohr? Or wondering why the Maggid said a maamar from Parshas Yisro on Shavuos? It’s very simple! There are a few maamarim printed in Likutei Torah for parshios before Vayikra, and one of them was the maamar we learned about yesterday! And what does Parshas Yisro talk about? Matan Torah, which happened on Shavuos!
All of these Hayom Yoms about Torah Ohr and Likutei Torah show us how important it is for a chossid to learn the “Chassidishe Parsha!”

Today we learn 3 mitzvos, all about Yovel!
1) (Mitzvas Asei #138) All land that we buy in Eretz Yisroel needs to go back to the person it belonged to first during Yovel. Who is the person it belonged to “first”? The person who got it when the Yidden came into Eretz Yisroel! This way all of the land stays in the same Shevet forever.
2) (Mitzvas Lo Saasei #227) When we sell land in Eretz Yisroel, we aren’t allowed to sell it forever. We are only allowed to sell it until Yovel, and then we get it back.
3) (Mitzvas Asei #139) A house in a city in Eretz Yisroel that had a wall around it when the Yidden first came into Eretz Yisroel is different than other land. These houses CAN be sold forever. They can only be bought back for one year, and they don’t go back to the original owner in Yovel.

In today's Rambam, we learn more about Shemitah, and start learning about Yovel!
Perek Tes: In the Shemitah year, we don’t owe anyone money anymore! That’s called Shemitas Kesafim. We learn that there is a way for a Beis Din to take over the loan, called Pruzbul, so that the loan will be paid back even after Shemitah.
Perek Yud: We learn about Yovel — when it is, and what are the mitzvos that we do during that year! The Rambam gives an exact calculation of when the years of Yovel were, and when the Yidden stopped counting them.
Perek Yud-Alef: In this perek, we learn about fields in Eretz Yisroel: Even when we sell them, they go back to the person who sold them during Yovel. This is called Sedei Achuzah. These are the dinim of the first two mitzvos in today’s Sefer Hamitzvos.

This perek teaches us about Korbanos that we are NOT allowed to eat.

In today’s Chumash, we see that Moshe Rabbeinu told the Aibershter what the Yidden had answered him. Of course Hashem already knew, but Moshe Rabbeinu still went back and told Hashem.
Rashi explains that this teaches us Derech Eretz. If someone makes you his shliach to do something, you should come back and tell him how it went — even if he already knows.
This is very important for Chassidim to know!
Chassidim are all the Rebbe’s shluchim, with the job of strengthening Yiddishkeit and Darkei Hachassidus. Our shlichus includes ourselves, our families, and anyone else we can reach.
We shouldn’t just say “the Rebbe knows.” Out of Derech Eretz, we should write letters and tell the Rebbe how our shlichus is going. This will bring the Rebbe much nachas!

Let’s start to look at the actual words of the bracha:
Baruch Ata Hashem — Hashem, You are blessed
Elokeinu Veilokei Avoseinu — Our Aibershter, and the Aibershter of our fathers
Elokei Avraham — The Aibershter of Avraham Avinu
Elokei Yitzchak — The Aibershter of Yitzchak Avinu
Veilokei Yaakov — And the Aibershter of Yaakov Avinu.
The Rebbe explains why we first say Elokeinu, “our Aibershter,” before saying “Veilokei Avoseinu,” and the Aibershter of our fathers, the Avos. Even though we are speaking about the zechus of the Avos, and even though they came before us, we start by saying what is closest to us, and means the most to us. Most important of all is that Hashem is OUR Aibershter, and that we are able to speak to Hashem!

It is a mitzvah for every person to make Kiddush on Shabbos, or be yotzei by listening to someone else make Kiddush.
In order to be yotzei someone else’s Kiddush, it is very important to be paying attention the whole time, and not to make a hefsek, interrupting the Kiddush at all!
Many people are used to listening to brachos in shul, and saying “Baruch Hu U’varuch Shemo” to praise Hashem every time they hear the chazan say Hashem’s name in a bracha. But saying this during Kiddush, or any other bracha that you want to be yotzei, is a hefsek! We should be quiet and listen during the whole bracha, and only answer Amen at the end of the bracha. This way we can be yotzei hearing Kiddush.

In today’s Chumash, we learned that before Matan Torah, Hashem said that He will make all of the Yidden healthy. Hashem made the blind able to see, and everyone who had any problem with their bodies were healed. This way, all of the Yidden were able to see the Elokus revealed at Matan Torah!
The Alter Rebbe says in Tanya that Har Sinai was a taste of what will happen in the times of Moshiach. The Medrash tells us that when Moshiach comes, Hashem will again heal the blind first, so that all of the Yidden will be able to see the Elokus shining in the world in the times of Moshiach!
