Bye bye Year of the Dog, Hello Year of the Pig!

Worried about what to do with your brand over the next 12 months? As we roll into the new year, we're already feeling it's going to be a good one. Want to know what we've been thinking about? Take a read through on our predictions for the year ahead. Some based on solid business insights, others from the creativity of our collective minds. Some about your business, some about the industry and some about our business.

Let's go!

Top 10 Predictions for 2019

1. You’ll talk to your tech more than your talk to yourself

With leaps in AI understanding of our voice inputs you’ll be talking much more to your technology - "Hello, where should i go for dinner tonight?"... "Go to Canton Disco the desserts are amazing, I’ve booked you into the Gym for 7am."
2. There will be plenty of coffee for everyone.

Seven new coffee shops will open within 200 meters of your office, meanwhile, Luckin Coffee loses even more RMB year-over-year (RMB 857 million in the first nine months of 2018 to be exact) but ultimately overtake Starbucks in store numbers.
3. Food Delivery will get slightly more conscious

Ele.me and Meituan actually work together to address the growing plastic waste problem (we hope). Ghost kitchens and restaurant store layouts continue to morph to account for the increasing demand in online food deliveries and the need to keep customers happy.
4. Creative? We see brand romances that you wouldn’t expect

We predict some unpredictable collaborations across all industries - Heinz and Cath Kidston, Cadburys and Alexander Wang, Adidas and Sriracha Sauce?
5. Who will be first to market? Less pork, more vegetables

As health and environmental concerns continue to grow, more choices will be demanded to meet consumer needs. Our guess, more meat-free options and we’ll even see Omnipork (vegan pork) enter China. Then the tide really starts to turn.
6. Data out smarts you and invents physical products we love

Alibaba launches new products and concepts driven by user data, in proof, that AI will be able to invent better products and services than us.
7. Thread goes plastic free,
for a month!

We did it for one week last year, now we've got our sights set for a few weeks longer. Come join us, if you dare.
8. All will not be what it seems when you order drinks

As the speakeasy trend hits a fever point and young drinkers are consuming expensive whiskey hidden behind faux shopfronts, we foresee the first ever shoe shop disguised as a cocktail bar.
9. No shortage of good craft beer

Think you need to be more creative? A new craft beer launches in Shanghai that we’ll be shouting about.  We may have branded one that’s about to be launched.
10. We predict the end of money

We’ll become a cashless economy and Chinese banks will stop printing money. Seriously, it's a possibility. How many of us have already claimed Alipay and Wechat as our best friends? When was the last time you paid with cash?
