NW Adventists Give Nearly $500K to Paradise Efforts |
After the devastating wild fire in early November 2018 that destroyed the town of Paradise, Calif., Northwest Adventists immediately jumped into action to provide support. Special offerings were collected throughout the Northwest. During the months of November and December 2018, more than $481,000 was collected with more donations expected through January. |

Mills Accepts Call to UCC |
Rodney Mills has accepted an invitation to become Upper Columbia Conference (UCC) vice president for administration. He will replace Doug Johnson, who announced his retirement in December. Mills has been serving in the Texas Conference since 2016 as ministerial director. In addition to serving at the conference, Mills has pastored for 35 years in Texas, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. |

Adventist Farmers Gather in Gladstone |
Several hundred Seventh-day Adventist farmers from around North America and beyond gathered Jan. 15–19 at the Holden Convention Center in Gladstone, Ore., for the Adventist Agricultural Association (AGA) convention. AGA provides a network to support, share and encourage fellow Adventists in agricultural pursuits with tools and know-how backed by science, counsel and Scripture. Find more at adventistag.org. |

Former NW Adventist Leader Passes |
Roscoe Howard III, who served as North Pacific Union Conference youth director and as a special assistant to the president directing regional ministries from 1993–1998, passed away this week after a long illness. Howard’s ministry began in the Washington Conference as pastor and youth director. Throughout his service for the church, Howard also served as the executive secretary for the North American Division, and as president for the Mid-America Union. In more recent years, he was vice president of mission and ministries for Adventist Health System in Orlando, Fla. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Forest Lake Adventist Church in Apopka, Fla. |

WWU Seeks to Become a Blue Zone |
Walla Walla University (WWU) has undertaken an initiative to drive economic transformation and economic vitality in the Walla Walla Valley. The program, led by the WWU Center for Humanitarian Engagement, recently held a community info session outlining how to bring about these changes by becoming a Blue Zone community. NW Leaders Receive Excellence Awards |
At the recent North American Division Ministries Convention, held in Albuquerque, N.M., three Northwest leaders received awards for the their commitment in ministry with the Excellence in Ministry Award.
- Colette Newer, Washington Conference outreach ministries director, for excellence in personal ministries.
- Greg Hamilton, North Pacific Union Conference Northwest Religious Liberty Association president, for excellence in public affairs and religious liberty (previously mistakenly reported as receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award).
- Kevin Wilfley, Kirkland Adventist Church senior pastor and North Pacific Union Conference prayer ministries director, for excellence in prayer ministries.
In total, four Northwest Leaders — including the Lifetime Achievement Award to Minner Labrador Jr., Upper Columbia Conference president — were recognized for their service. |
