You only turn 50 once.  Fifty plus years ago, God began to stir some hearts and believed that an Independent Christian Church ought to be established in Keokuk, IA.  These families obeyed, worked hard, were led by the Holy Spirit, and made an impact in their community.  That church is known at New Testament Christian Church.

NTCC will celebrate 50 years of making disciples in 2019.  50 years of sending Timothies into ministry.  50 years of working within our community to make it greater.  And for the next 50 years, it is my hope and prayer that we make an even greater impact in our church, community and the globe.

We will be celebrating 50 years this June 1-2.   We are in the planning stages of most events, but I can tell you two things.  Matt Proctor, President of Ozark Christian College, will be our main speaker.  Two, whether you have been here for 25 plus years or are newer to NTCC, you will not want to miss this.  It is remembering what God has done through His people here at NTCC and a vision for what is to come.  GOD IS STILL AT WORK HERE!

In a few months, on April 7 we will have our first Great Day of Service for 2019.  This will be a day where we get into groups to serve our church and community.  So mark your calendars and get ready for a Great Day and great ministry!

Gabbi Courtney was baptized by her Dad, Andrew, on January 21st! Gabbi is a 3rd grader and a part of HiSKidZ and NTCC. Her mom, Angie, brother Noah, and other family were on hand to share in her special day. Keep Gabbi in your prayers as she grows in Christ.

Taking Christ To Millions

The TCM International Institute (TCMI) develops Christian leaders for significant service through higher learning. Their vision is that every nation will have effective leaders of disciple-making movements impacting their churches, cultures, and countries for Christ.

Strategy

TCM comes alongside Christians who are leading in their own countries and have a passion for reaching their people for Christ.  Through the institute they can develop a Christian leader for a fraction of the cost it would take to send a U.S. missionary to that same country.  Since these individuals already know the cultures and languages, they are able to have successful ministries and are equipped for a lifetime of service.

Implementation

TCM educates Christian leaders from more than 40 countries through their accredited graduate institute.  Courses are offered in a flexible format so that students can stay fully involved in their local ministries.  80% of each class is delivered online and another 20% is finished face-to-face with in-depth discussion, mentoring, and application of the online portion.

Haus Edelweiss

Once used for TCM's benevolence ministry working within the Soviet Union, Haus
Edelweiss is now the main teaching facility in Vienna, Austria

Mentoring Centers

Many students are unable to travel to the main campus in Austria because of family situations, lack of finances, or political issues.  So TCM has strategically utilized online services and created numerous mentoring centers in over a dozen countries to provide the students with easier access to the training.  Currently over 50% of classes are finished face-to-face at these centers, making the ministry training more cost- effective for the organization and more convenient for students.

Commission Coffee Corner
Every Sunday, coffee is ready at the Commission Coffee Corner before worship and ABF Classes. Coffee is free, but as you fill your cup, you may notice a jar for donations on the counter. Your donations support a different mission organization each month that is working to bring the good news to all corners of the world.

January & February Commission Coffee Corner donations go to Shiloh Christian Children's Ranch

Prayer is the door of access to God and if we want to see God move, and we do, we need to pray. So this month join us in asking God to

It is our prayer that each person at NTCC, the church on Hilton Road, will continue to grow in their relationship with God through prayer, for God's power is released as His people pray. God moves in individuals, families, cities and the world when His people pray.

Sometimes, it just takes taking the time to stop and sit with the Lord to rekindle our heart for Him, our conversations with Him and to recognize that prayer times, prayer events and group prayer gatherings aren't just for other people; they are for us. Through them God helps us see that there is no secret formula to prayer, nor will our prayers be somehow deemed unworthy. Our prayers are our hearts joined together in relationship with God, our Father.

It was encouraging to hear people share their surprise at how quickly their 15 minutes passed or to realize they had stayed much longer than they realized or even thought possible as part of their prayer life.

Our 36 hour prayer event was a good start in bringing our church body to a place of truly being a church of prayer. We are thankful for every person who signed up and prayed either at home or at the church.

Show us any sin in our lives that needs to be repented
Move in hearts to want to know Him more
Truly make us a praying church
Create a spirit of even greater generosity within us
Place in us a hunger for His Word
Connect even more people to ABF's and small groups
Lead us to our next staff hire for worship and youth
Call to salvation those who are unsaved
Show us how to make disciples who will follow faithfully
Raise up and equip leaders and volunteers
Grant us strength for each day
Fill us with joy and hope

These are just a few starting places for prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you as you come before the Lord for the church, the community and the world.

Please don’t forget to join us each week for our prayer and worship meeting on Sunday nights from 6pm to 7pm!

What's Going On At Home???

Each Sunday, as families pick up from KidZChurch, we hand out an "At Home" paper like the one pictured below. The goal is to have families spend a little time "at home," going over what we just learned, and what we will be learning the next week.

Our teaching is set up so that every year a child in KidZChurch will receive teaching from Genesis to Revelation, covering the entire "BIG GOD STORY," as we call it. The "At Home" papers help parents to learn along with their child and to lead spiritually from home in addition to what we teach on Sundays.

I believe this time at home is one of the most valuable things you can do as the faith leaders in your home. Did you know that the average child/family now attends church only 1.2 Sundays a month, and for most that's only one service. So a child who would be considered involved in the church is only getting 12-15 hours of Bible teaching a year at church. Compare that to 10-15 years ago when that amount was close to 100 hours a year for a semi regular attender--more like 200 hours a year for an active attender. Ten-fifteen hours a year is just not enough to combat the worldly influences HiSKidZ come against every day.

In order to encourage HISKidZ to spend some "at home" time, I'm offering the opportunity to share in "at home" time with you, then have you, as parents, grandparents or care givers,  sign their paper so they can return it the next time they are at church. Those papers will be put in a container and a name will be drawn each week. Then I will come and have lunch at school with the person who's name is drawn.

I hope this little encouragement and incentive will be a help to your family as you move towards time in the Word together at home. Just a few minutes each week can be life and heart changing.

Please pray with me that HiSKidZ and their families will desire to grow in their love for God's Word at home and at church, and that I will have lots of lunch dates in the upcoming months!

If you have any questions about the "At Home" papers, please don't hesitate to contact me. You can also find them on our HiSKidZ Facebook page. They are usually posted on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Serving together--MsDawn

Blanket Making Day for 5th-6th grade Saturday, Feb. 23 9-noon

Older HiSKidZ can sign up now to help make blankets for our upcoming Baby Dedication. We will meet at the church at 9am to make the blankets and then have some lunch together before going home. If your child is interested in helping in this service opportunity, have them see me, Ms Dawn, to sign up.

Our next Baby Dedication will be held Sunday, March 31 during the 10:30 service. If you have a child under the age of 2 and would like to be a part of this special time, please make a note on your connection card and turn it in to the basket by the entrance doors or see Ms Dawn.

HiSKidZ have started our DISCIPLES lessons on following Jesus.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel two Wednesdays in a row because of weather. Yet, we will not be deterred. God is teaching us some great truths about faithfulness, following and sharing Jesus with those around us!

We can't wait to get back on track in February. KidZRocK is for children grades K-5th and meets from 6-7:15pm each Wednesday until May 9.

Current Opportunities include:
KidZChurch Volunteers--Come be part of what God is doing in the lives of HiSKidZ.
Training provided.

Nursery Cleaning Team Volunteers--Volunteers are needed to come to the church one afternoon a week to clean the baby and toddler nurseries and toys.

HiSKidZ classes on Sunday morning meet at 9am (lessons with Bible skills games) and 10:30 KidZChurch (with songs, lesson, communion time and lesson review games).
NTCC's Youth Programming, TheLoft, for grades 6-12, exists to evangelize, disciple, and equip youth through exposure to God's work, prayer, community, and Christ-centered relationships in order to mobilize them to works of service. The Loft meets on Wednesday Nights in the NTCC MPB. Grades 6-8 meet from 6pm-7:15pm and Grades 9-12 meet from 7:30pm-9pm. On Sunday mornings, grades 7-12 meet at 9am for The Loft AM Bible study all year long.

Dear Parents,

Believe is just around the corner and we wanted to make sure you were as informed as possible before signing up your child to join us on this amazing weekend event specifically designed for Jr. High students (grades 6-8).

In case you’ve never heard of Believe before, let me give you a quick overview. It’s a weekend event produced by Christ In Youth, an organization that has been putting together
age-intentional events all over the world for almost 50 years  (you can check out their website at www.ciy.com/believe). It takes place in a large auditorium, where your child will worship alongside tons of other students their age. It’s literally an experience they’ll get nowhere else. It’s also one of the safest and most well-organized events for students in the country!

The theme this year at Believe is “I AM” and will help students explore their identity in Christ. The idea of identity is a universal struggle. Every generation wrestles with it. Jr. High students sit at a pivotal moment in their lives where they are constantly asking the question “Who am I?” A student can’t truly know who they are until they know who God is. And this year CIY’s Believe tour will help Jr. High students understand what it means to find their identity in God.

There are hundreds of “I Am” statements in the Bible, but Believe will focus on four key phrases during the 2018-19 tour that will be a foundation for Jr. High students to have deeper conversations about identity: “I am God’s masterpiece,” “I am God’s child,” “I am the church” and “I am a Kingdom worker.”

We plan on taking a group of students to Springfield, Il. For this event. It will be taking place March 1st-2nd, and will cost $120 per student. This will cover food, hotel, and a t-shirt from the event. Please email me with any questions, and if your student plans to attend this awesome event.

There will be more information regarding the high school CIY event in our next newsletter.

Adult Bible Fellowship: Sunday Mornings are just the beginning!

On Sunday mornings, join our NTCC family in one of our Adult Bible Fellowship (ABF) classes. This ministry exists to equip the NTCC congregation with the Word of God as we live to be obedient to the Great Commission and take the Gospel of Jesus to the world.

At 9:00am:
Chip Ingram: Transformed
Study leader: Dave Snowden

In this series, from Ephesians 4, you will learn how true life change can happen to you. You'll be able to identify the barriers that have held you back from receiving God's best and you'll also learn how to break out of a destructive lifestyle so you can become the person you've always longed to be. This fresh approach to spiritual transformation is designed to move you from the frustration of failure to the freedom you have in Christ.

At 10:30am:

Connie Helenthal will be facilitating this class December though February.

*NTCC is still in need of additional facilitators'. Schedules are flexible and easily adaptable. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry please call the church office for more information. 319-524-8727

At 10:30am:
Standard Bible Publishing Lesson: Our Love for God
Study leader: Cullen Hartley

This winter, lessons focus on "love". The Biblical outlook on love is grounded in God's unchanging nature. Our acts of love toward Him and others are responses to this aspect of His identity. Throughout this quarter topics will include God as Love, Love for God, Love Like God and Love like No Other. Passages from the books of Deuteronomy, Joshua, Psalms, Matthew, Luke and various Epistles will be explored.

For more information about our ABF ministry, please see Chris Mickelson or contact the NTCC Office 319-524-8727

At 6pm:
Sunday Night Prayer

Join New Testament Christian Church on Sunday nights, from 6pm to 7pm, for a come-and-go-as-you-please time of prayer. This service focuses on seeking our God together as the Church through singing, scripture reading, and praying in groups, with a friend, or by yourself. For more information, please see an NTCC staff member.

Small Groups are currently meeting at various locations throughout the tri-state area. Spiritual growth continually occurs in small group cultures, and we encourage every member of NTCC to plug into a group or ABF.

God uses small group studies to help us BELIEVE, BELONG and BECOME all He desires for us as His body.  Small groups are a great way to connect and be a part of what God is doing in lives here at NTCC.
