Denver’s Turn Over a New leaf Program

January 24, 2019

Dear Marijuana Industry,

For decades, the war on drugs has had a significant impact on our City, with a disproportionate impact on distinct communities within our City.  Even today, a low-level marijuana possession offense can negatively affect many areas of a person’s life, including employment and education opportunities, qualification for government benefits and programs, ability to travel, and immigration status proceedings. As a part of Denver’s mission to promote equity and with the help of community partners and social justice advocates, Mayor Hancock, the Department of Excise and Licenses, the Denver City Attorney’s Office, and the Denver District Attorney’s Office have created the “Turn Over a New Leaf” Program. As part of the program, people can now request to vacate and seal certain low-level marijuana convictions obtained in Denver before legalization. Anyone interested in applying can do so online or in person at one of four clinics. To learn more about the program and eligibility, visit our website or email newleaf@denvergov.org with questions.
