From the Principal

Charlie EisenreichOn January 16, I had the pleasure of presenting to the St. Cloud School District 742 Board of Education. I was able to share important information and highlight several of the great achievements of our students. I’d like to take this opportunity and share with you portions of that presentation.

Currently, Tech’s student population, as broken down by race, is over 50% non-white, I believe for the first time in our 102-year history. This year’s student body identifies as 52% Free and Reduce-Priced lunch, while our Special Education population rose to 225 students. Our daily student attendance exceeds 95% while our Graduation Rate remains above the State average. At Tech, we value students who challenge themselves by enrolling in rigorous courses. 32% of our students are currently taking an Honors-level course. Just last year, 74% of our Advanced Placement students attained a score of 3 or more on AP exams, well above the state average. Last year we had 89 AP Scholars, up from 80 the year before. Tech’s Activities Program continues to excel across all academic, athletic, and fine arts areas. We offer 31 girls and boy’s athletic opportunities with 34 academic and fine arts activities and clubs. I always say there is something for everyone at Tech HS. Our Math Team is a 22-time conference champion, the Speech team has won 25 consecutive conference titles, a team in our Robotics program has already qualified for Nationals, and students in our music programs consistently are awarded Superior scores during competitions. Athletically, our Tennis and Gymnastics teams continue to be perennial conference and section champs, and our Adaptive teams have won multiple state championships in recent years. Last year, we had five Tech graduates receive Division 1 athletic scholarships. We wouldn’t be successful without great students who understand what it takes to meet expectations. When we consider student behavior, over 1400 of our students currently have 0 or only one Office Discipline Referral while over 1260 have no referrals this year! With such a great student body, Tech is one of the only high schools in the state of MN to be recognized two years in a row as a PBIS Sustained Exemplar School.

Congratulations Tech High School!

Charlie Eisenreich

New Tech Update

Construction continues to move forward inside the New Tech High despite the winter weather. As you can see by the pictures below, areas in two of the learning neighborhoods are beginning to take shape. Interior lighting and ceiling tile are currently being installed throughout the building. Classroom areas are being prepped for interior wall installation, the pool decking will be put into place soon, and carpet is to arrive and be installed in the upcoming weeks.

In addition to construction at the site, Tech staff has learned much about technology from the Pilot Classroom. Feedback from staff allowed us to refine the order for audio and visual equipment in learning and teaching spaces. We’ve met with architects to make plans for room numbers throughout the building. It’s incredible to see just how many rooms and spaces there are in this new high school. And a Community Grand Opening committee has met twice to discuss plans for a public ceremony and dedication of the new school. Initial plans include involvement of students, staff, and hopefully a host of dignitaries.
