Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. ~Søren Kierkegaard

Capital Nordic Walking Instructor Nicky Gibbons is now running Nordic Walking courses on Canberra's South side and 2 weekly group Nordic Walks for people who have learnt to Nordic Walk and have their own poles.  The southernmost district of Canberra, Tuggeranong, is also one of the largest. Only one third is dedicated to urban use, with two thirds being rural and National Park – making it a perfect area for Nordic Walking!

Nicky began her career as a professional dancer and Resident Director/Company Manager of musical theatre shows. She ran a successful mobile personal training business in Sydney and the Blue Mountains NSW, before moving to the ACT to start Align & Balance. Nicky is a registered Cert 3 and 4 Fitness Professional with Fitness Australia and has attained Advanced Level Master Trainer.   She is also qualified as a Pilates Matwork Instructor and Strengthening for over 60’s teacher gained from St George Hospital, Sydney in alliance with their physiotherapists. Additionally, she is qualified in Nutrition, Swedish/Remedial Massage.
With over 30 years’ experience in the fitness and dance industry she is fully aware of the requirements that must be considered when training more mature or injured people. She has worked with a vast array of clients covering all aspects of rehabilitation, pre and post-natal mothers, seniors, clients with cancer and neurological disorders, clients with weight management issues, or those simply wanting to get fitter.  In 2018 Nicky discovered the vast benefits of Nordic Walking and how it helps clients physically and also psychologically. She has worked closely with Kristen in learning the Capital Nordic Walking technique for teaching people to Nordic Walk and is a certified Nordic Walking Instructor with the Nordic Academy in Melbourne.  Check out item below about what Nicky is going to get up to next! Ever heard of Pawdic Walking?............

~ Stretching for Nordic Walking   ~
6.00-7.30pm Monday 1st April and 2nd September
Whether you are an athlete or a couch potato, everyone can benefit from stretching!  Stretching is one of the best ways to keep your muscles healthy. Stretching regularly will strengthen your muscles and increase your flexibility. The more flexible you are, the better it is for your joints. Keeping muscles and joints in top condition helps with your day-to-day range of motion and can help guard against injury.
Stretching properly is a little more technical than just swinging your leg over a park bench. Come along and learn methods and techniques that will maximize the benefits and minimize your risk of injury.  Teaching people to understand how to stretch well and safely has been a passion for Nicky Gibbons for over 20 years and she is constantly upgrading her knowledge and skills in this area. Nicky is looking forward to introducing you to a series of great stretches to enhance your Nordic Walking.

Get Up and Walk Your Way to Greater Health and Happiness
The tides of time have changed the face of the workplace, but the sedentary lifestyle these contemporary jobs entail is taking its toll on our well-being. Stress has become more ubiquitous than ever. Lifestyle diseases are becoming rampant. Fortunately, we can thwart the onset of these 21st-century killers by opting for one of the most powerful preventive measures out there: the love of walking.

When you’re feeling exhausted, stressed, sad and are tempted by the lure of the couch (or other less health temptations!) instead of going for a walk - you should think twice.  Scientists fervently remind us of the many benefits of walking for our mood as much as for our physical health. Whether it’s to boost your everyday happiness or to stay fit and healthy, the challenge is the same: overcoming the urge to slack.

Remind yourself of why such a simple thing as walking can have such a dramatic effect on your well-being .............
