New Year, New Lanes

From laneway lighting to master planning to community greening, we were busy last year! We're excited to share with you a snapshot of 2018 along with some projects we have in the works for 2019.

We played ping-pong and ate pizza at Layers of Rush Lane

Our annual summer laneway party came alive with dancing, live music, games, augmented reality, and beer and wine -- a huge success! See the photos
Both locals and tourists found themselves in Graffiti Alley on a warm August day enjoying this world-famous Toronto spot in all its glory.

We planted berries and vines in Luttrell Loop Lane

This network of residential alleys in the east end was the first in the city to benefit from Section 37 community benefits funding.  Watch as the new laneway name is unveiled with the help of some little hands.
The Laneway Project worked with local residents and the city Councillor to brighten these kid-filled laneways with new planters, solar lights, and murals.

We launched #LightUptheLaneways in Ossington & Bloordale

Solar-powered, programmable LED lights that turn blue when it snows, soft yellow to light the way home -- laneway lighting adds beauty and visibility to frequently-used city laneways. We're testing what works and what doesn't in this first Toronto pilot project.
So far, we've raised one third of our #lightupthelaneways funding goal. If you live, work, or play in the Ossington or Bloordale neighbourhoods we hope you'll consider making a quick donation to the project at gofundme.com/lightupthelaneways

We created an interactive Toronto laneway map

Check out our newly-launched Toronto Laneway Map - a free, one-stop shop for the foundational information needed to successfully analyse a laneway and plan its revitalization, and a visualization of the growing number of laneway revitalization projects around the city.
Explore the project sites we've been lucky enough to work on and add your own alley plans to the mix at thelanewayproject.ca/torontolanewaymap

Confirmed: A plan for Nicholson Lane near St. Lawrence Market

Old Toronto's Nicholson Lane is getting a new look in 2019 thanks to the local residents, businesses and cultural organizations who want to see a more beautiful, green, welcoming and tidy public space.
So far we've raised almost $35,000 for new solar lighting, planters, murals, paving, and more. Help make the project a reality by making a donation today at gofundme.com/nicholsonlane
Next Up in 2019

May Laneway Summit

This spring, we're launching up-to-date laneway resources to make Toronto alley revitalizations easier for everyone. We also have Toronto laneway policy news and a new report to share in partnership with Ryerson University's City Building Institute.

Save the Date: Laneway Party 2019

Make sure you're in the city on Saturday, June 22 for our annual summer alleyway party -- this year we're bringing the laneway fun to Toronto's hip Ossington area. Meet us in the laneway northwest of Queen and Ossington for music, drinks, bubbles, and more.
