Prayer Request

Friends,

I write with an update on Doug Tang's condition.  Sadly, it turns out that Doug's pancreatic cancer has metastasized to his liver. The cancer marker (CA9-19), which was 149 prior to surgery, was found this week to be over 2,000.  The oncologist recommended a more aggressive (toxic) chemotherapy than the one initially planned.  Thankfully, Doug seems to be tolerating it.

Yesterday, Chris, Doug's son, sent out an email to family and friends updating his condition.  He reported that the doctors are now talking about “prolonging life” instead of a “cure”.  Among other things, Chris wrote the following:
On Wednesday, while we waited to see the oncologist, not knowing what we were going to learn, but knowing that the news was not good, my mom pointed out a poster with these words, “What cancer cannot do.  Cancer is so limited.  It cannot cripple love. In cannot shatter hope.  It cannot corrode faith.  It cannot eat away peace.  It cannot destroy confidence.  It cannot kill friendship.  It cannot shut out memories.  It cannot silence courage.  It cannot reduce eternal life.  It cannot quench the spirit.”

Or as St. Paul wrote a church in Rome that too was at times shocked, scared and sad, “but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” And no matter what, nothing can separate us from the love of God.  That is the hope that will never disappoint.

Family and friends of Doug, now is the time to be as positive and prayerful as ever in this journey with Doug and to continue to hold him in Light.  We know that there continues to be breakthroughs and advances in treatments for pancreatic cancer…….

On behalf of my entire family, thank you for your continued support.

With love,

Chris
Please continue to hold Doug and his family in your prayers.

Yours in Christ,

- Fr. Taylor
