A special presentation will be made to parents on Wednesday, January 30 at 7:00 pm, in conjunction with a brief General PTA Meeting. Representatives of NJ Child Assault Prevention (CAP) will discuss the training it will be giving to all of our students during the first two weeks of March.
CAP will be training our students to:
- Prevent abuse and bullying
- Be assertive without being aggressive
- Learn self-protection strategies to keep them safe from sexual abuse, abduction, and other potentially dangerous situations.
At the parent presentation, CAP representatives will explain and answer any questions regarding our student training, as well as teach parents and guardians how to reinforce these strategies for safety with their children.
A flyer regarding this presentation was sent home in all students’ backpacks this last week.
PLEASE ATTEND THIS VERY IMPORTANT PRESENTATION!
Contact Sara Egan, School Counselor with any questions.

Great Kindness Challenge at Bret Harte School
In keeping with our goal of being “Harte S.M.A.R.T,” Harte school will be participating in the national “Great Kindness Challenge (GKC)” which will take place during the week of January 28. The Great Kindness Challenge is a proactive and positive bullying prevention initiative that improves school climate and increases student engagement. During this week, Bret Harte students will try to perform as many acts of kindness as possible. In 2018, over 10 million students in almost 20,000 schools in103 countries united and inspired over 500 million acts of kindness!! Bret Harte wants to do its part to increase those totals this year. Please talk to your children about various acts of kindness they may be performing as part of this challenge.
The service learning project for the week is “Kind Coins for Liberia.” Students around the world are trying to raise funds to build a health center in Paynesville, Liberia. Please encourage your child to earn money to contribute to this wonderful cause.
During the week, one of our students will be selling bandannas to support the Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation (ARVF) which seeks to help teenagers suffering from cancer. Bandannas will be sold at lunchtime for $3 each and will be worn by students and staff on Friday of that week.
These are our dress-up theme days to celebrate the GKC:
Monday: “Team up for kindness” – Wear your favorite sports or team jersey
Tuesday: “I dream of kindness” – Wear pajamas
Wednesday: “Kindness Happens at Harte” – Wear Harte spirit clothing
Thursday: “Crazy for kindness” – Wear wild or mismatched socks
Friday: “Hats off – bandannas on! – to kindness” – Wear a bandana to support the ARVF
Remember, Kindness Counts!!
