This Sunday we hold our Annual Meeting of the Congregation. That sounds very Presbyterian, doesn’t it? We do things “decently and in order” (1 Cor. 14:40). It’s actually a great chance to hear what’s going on in the church, have some conversation, and remember those who have passed away this last year. And we'll say thank you to some of the many people who give so much to make FPC a healthy, vibrant place. This year we’ll hear a special report from Tom Martin about the Commitment Initiative – there is a LOT to celebrate!
Interestingly, our scripture for this Sunday’s worship is the call of the disciples in Matthew 4:12-25. It’s a passage that raises questions in my mind –like, what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? I mean, what’s required of us? What’s at stake? What’s the point?
Honestly, thinking about our work as a congregation juxtaposed with that passage raises even more questions: Is this congregation helping us become disciples of Jesus? How? How does all the time, energy, and money we spend make a difference? Is it helping us answer God’s call?
