Volume 12                                                                                             February 2019

 February is Heart Health Month

The education/social committees of the Spring Creek Community Club have planned many fun-filled, exciting and practical activities for the entire Spring Creek community designed to increase  awareness and cultivate sound, heart-healthy practices.
Two calendars are available for residents to download, each providing daily suggestions to promote heart health. One is specifically geared towards family fun. Family Fun Calendar or February Heart Health Calendar. In addition, the Tavern will expand their dining menu to include scrumptious and heart-healthy meals throughout the month. More heart-healthy recipes can be found at https://recipes.heart.org.

Friday, February 1st  @ 7 PM kicks off our heart health month at the Sports Club. You and your family can burn calories and improve your cardio as we move and groove to pop music and oldies with Sherryl Taylor, our fitness expert. It’s a family affair, so put on your red, and come out and have some fun. It’s free!

February 5th the Community Club meeting will include a speaker from the Louisa County Fire and Rescue Department and a presentation entitled "Don't Be Afraid of the AED".  At this time there is an AED in the exercise room and two have been ordered, one for the Sports Club and one for the Tavern. Kathy Konoza, a Spring Creek resident and Louisa county EMT, will provide a demonstration and offer information on our volunteer department residing at Zion Crossroads. ALL residents of Spring Creek are invited to the demonstration and to the SCCC meeting that follows. The program starts at 7pm in the Sports Club.

Heart Health Awareness will culminate on February 20th, at 7pm in the Celebration Room, with an interactive panel discussion moderated by noted cardiologist Joshua Fischer, MD. Dr. Fischer has practiced in the area for over 20 years, and is affiliated with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. Registered dietician and local TV personality Rita Smith will also participate in the discussion. Activities are open to all Spring Creek residents and we urge everyone to participate. Spring Creek Advisory Council

The Advisory Council (AC) was created in 2006 at the first annual homeowners’ meeting of the Spring Creek Community Association, Inc. The AC acts as a communication liaison between the residents and the Association’s Board of Directors, which is under developer control, by collecting homeowner concerns and creating a list of recommendations at its’ regularly scheduled meetings. Those concerns and recommendations are submitted to the Board of Directors. The AC meets in February, March, May, June, August, September, November, and December. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm in the Spring Creek Sports Club. You can contact the Advisory Council at advisorycouncil@springcreekliving.com. The email goes to all AC members. Read more for a list of members of Advisory Council and Goals of the council

One of the tasks of the Advisory Council is to provide input to the Board Of Directors about the items that the community considers important to be considered as part of the expenditures of the $40,000 that is set aside annually for capital improvement projects within the community. Anyone with suggestions is asked to submit their suggestions to the Advisory Council (advisorycouncil@springcreekliving.com)

Central Virginia Baptist Association Clothing Center

Since early 2018, a group of Spring Creek Ladies, led by Shirley Eames, has been volunteering every Wednesday at the Central Virginia Baptist Association Clothing Center, located at 815 Bolling Avenue in the Belmont area of Charlottesville.  While the Clothing Center is open to paying customers, the majority of the clientele are either low income or homeless individuals with vouchers issued by Social Services, The Haven or local churches.

The Tavern on the Green at Spring Creek kindly approved a proposal from the Spring Creek Ladies to place a collection box for the Clothing Center, on an interim basis beginning 1 February, at The Tavern Hostess Station.  The donations will be directed to the Window Replacement Fund.  The Clothing Center is conducting other fundraising efforts to reach the $3000 goal. These efforts include a Valentine's Sale on Wednesday, 6 February, from 10am to 3pm.  Clients can purchase a grocery bag of clothes for $2 instead of the regular $5 price or a large white plastic bag of clothes for $5.  The current inventory includes business and casual winter clothing for women and men plus a large selection of infant/children's/teen winter clothing.
