Western Sales Company Newsletter

February | 2019 Issue

Hello and Happy February! We hope your year is starting off swimmingly and that you enjoyed and/or recovered from the holidays. We've got another newsletter on the brief side (or what passes for "brief" from us) because almost nothing ever happens this time of year. But there's still some worthwhile content to enjoy including KBIS info, CEC resource reminders, training and more.

Here are your "I don't have time for this" highlights:

  • Get your KBIS passes, courtesy of LIXIL
  • New training video from Steamist
  • New pricing info from Geberit

All this and more, below.

MTI

Counter-Sink Freight Adder | As you know, MTI recently released a new freight policy. The brand new, fancy-schmancy configurator is the best way to spec out and price your custom Counter-Sink – but unfortunately it will not add your freight to the price it quotes you (you'll need to add it yourself). If you need a freight reference, here's a handy breakdown covering all the Counter-Sink and related product freight pricing. Download the freight adder reference here. (Reminder – you must be a displaying dealer to order a Counter-Sink from MTI.)

Steamist

NEW Training from Steamist | Steamist keeps putting out great training content. This is a savvy move. Since steam isn't exactly an "every day" product, training helps us all remember to put it on the quote for those full bathroom projects (hint, hint). You can check out the latest video here on "Giving Your Customers Choices (Part 2) or the full offering of training here.

American Standard

Flash Valve Promo Video | If you're into this kind of thing (and we are), you'll enjoy this video that demonstrates all of the ways the new Flash Valve can save the installer time on the job. Show it to your plumber customers – they're definitely into this kind of thing. View here.

American Standard Dealer | The question isn't why should you become an American Standard dealer – the question is why shouldn't you? We can't think of why not. (And if you already are, congratulations. You made a great move.) If you want a little more convincing just for funsies, you can download this flyer and read all about the American Standard advantages for your showroom.

Your American Standard CEC Resource | Don't forget about American Standard's CEC microsite for all of your CEC product searching needs. Check it out here.
In other news...

Get your KBIS Passes Here | LIXIL is offering you (yes, you) courtesy passes to KBIS 2019. As you may know, KBIS is happening February 19th through the 21st, and is mercifully close for us West Coasters in the romantic city of Las Vegas (they don't call it the Paris of South-Eastern Nevada for no reason). Come visit us at the Grohe, American Standard, and DXV booth at #N3004! Register for your courtesy passes here.

Grohe

Your Grohe CEC Resource | Grohe has a nifty way for you to do a little CEC product research for your products – oddly enough, it's their CEC microsite. If you haven't checked it out before, you can see now by clicking on this link provided for your convenience.

DXV

Get Inspired | Want a bit of design inspiration? Of course you do. DXV has a pretty little section on their website dedicated to just that – gorgeous bathroom designs (featuring DXV products, natch). You can see all the prettiness here.

Amber's Fantastic February

Are you selling wall-hung toilets? You should be.
Afraid to? Don’t be.
Why? 'Cause I said so.

Seriously though, I know it's possibly a little daunting to think about putting all of the toilet guts inside of the wall but I am here to reassure you that not only does this scenario give the end user SO MUCH MORE SPACE IN THEIR BATHROOM, but also opens up the world of bathroom design to so many different options a floor mount toilet just might not provide.

For one, Geberit makes a carrier for just about any installation. Need a 2x4 – got it. 2x6? Yep, that too. What if there is a window above where I want to put the toilet, but I don’t want to give up the only natural light in the bathroom?! Oh yeah, there’s a carrier for that as well!

And Geberit has the most flush actuator designs in the business, is compatible with about any wall-hung toilet on the market, lifts the toilet off the floor for easy cleaning, has options for concealed bidet seat connections, and can also be used in ADA applications! Are you feeling it yet? You should be.

Geberit

Price Increase Info | As we mentioned in last month's newsletter, Geberit has a price increase scheduled for March 1, 2019. We hope to have the PDF price book soon, and in the meantime you can download the Excel Price File.

dahl

No Price Increase | Well, here's some good news! dahl has announced that because all raw materials are sourced in North America, dahl products remain unaffected by this whole tariff situation. dahl has announced that there will be no price increase this year

Tom's Tech Tip: Fluidmaster Fill Valve Leak

Maybe once or twice (or 1.37 bazillion times), I've gotten a call from a customer or homeowner about a "leaking" fill valve, or a fill valve that won't shut off. A few things can cause this, but often it's caused by debris caught in the fill valve, preventing it from closing all the way. You've probably gotten the same phone call a time or two?

As an aside, I can't help but mention that the debris doesn't come as a "standard feature" from the manufacturer – debris is usually caused by poor water quality or during installation. In other words, it's generally not a warranty matter – but I'm not known as "Mr. Nice Guy" for no reason, so I'm here to help.

As a bonus, if your homeowner customer seems even the slightest bit handy, they'll love this project. So let's learn some fill valve leak solutions.

Most American Standard toilets come with a Fluidmaster brand fill valve. Fluidmaster just happens to have a video that addresses this exact issue, so if your customer is calling about an American Standard toilet, you're in luck.

Here's the video. I'll wait while you give it a watch. [Cue Jeopardy theme music.]

All finished? Good. Easy, right? If you want further instructions, you can also download the Fluidmaster written instructions. Now you have some handy tools to forward on to any customers with a leaking fill valve.

Thanks,
Tom S ("Mr. Nice Guy")

Question: According to the video, how do you double check to make sure the water to the toilet is completely turned off?

Send the correct answer to lauren@western-sales.com by February 25, 2019 and receive a $5 Starbucks card.
Thanks for reading our newsletter!
