FOXFLIX

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to those who responded to the FOXFLIX survey, there is still chance to give us your views using the survey link below.

So far we have had 100% in favour for the project.

Most of you have said that you would like to be able to download the videos to keep forever. We have taken that into consideration and can confirm that the system will allow you to download the videos.

If you have any further questions or requests then please do let us know via the survey.

At Fox Primary School we are very proud of our children and staff when it comes to putting on a show ranging from assemblies, productions to the ever impressive talent shows. Traditionally these have been recorded, edited and produced on DVD. However, this is a complicated, time consuming and an out of date way of distributing digital content.

In an age of Netflix and on-demand streaming services on multi-platforms, we feel that this is the way forward for Fox to distribute such content.

We are considering having all media we produce published online in a secure parent only access service similar to Netflix. Only current parents with children in this school will have access to the videos through this service.
The main advantages of sharing content in this way are:

•    Content can be produced and distributed much faster (potentially as early as the next day);
•    The content is higher quality;
•    It can be watched on multiplatform devices such as phones, tablets and laptops etc

In order to make a viable service we would need to get enough parents to sign up and pay. The annual cost of a subscription would be £15 per year to access all content that the school produces until your child leaves the school. We envisage that each child would have approximately 3 videos per year uploaded – Christmas shows, class assemblies and talent show. In addition, other shows such as jazz workshop, Year 6 leavers and Reception graduation would always be uploaded.

We are seeking the views on this from our parents and carers. Please click here to let us know your thoughts.

Our IT team will attend the next FSA meeting to answer any queries.

Ms Madden recommends.....

‘If all the world were..’ is a beautifully illustrated picture book about a young girl’s relationship with her grandfather and how she copes when he dies, written by award winning poet Joseph Coelho (‘Werewolf Club Rules’ and ‘Overheard in a Tower Block’).  It is thoughtful and ultimately uplifting.

‘Let’s Talk About When Someone Dies’ is a newer title by Molly Potter, author of ‘What’s Worrying You?’ and ‘How are you Feeling Today’, which I’ve reviewed previously.  This is a very accessible picture book, excellent for starting conversations with children about death, bereavement and what happens next.   Like her other titles, it covers difficult subjects with sensitivity and honesty.  Each double page explains, through engaging illustrations and simple honest text, how you might feel, what you might think or how you might behave.  It has gentle guidance for parents too.
The Great Fox Ride 7th - 8th June

Calling all parents, carers and freinds. Having you considered:
  • Riding from London to Southampton and then once (twice) around the Isle of Wight;
  • Or riding once around the Isle of Wight;
  • Or riding  1/2 way round the Isle of Wight.
These are 3 of the options available to help the school raise money for the Federation. 10% of the funds raised will  support the MS charity MonkeySox. www.monkeysox.com We already have 35 staff, parents and friends committed to the ride.  We would really like 50 riders with a target of raising £50,000

We are asking parents, carers and friends to try and raise £1000 for the privilege of be part of this great event. We will split into groups, every group being led by an experienced rider. We will have support vans,  feed stations along the route, spare parts and bikes and even our very own Great Fox Ride jersey and socks. Santini (Italian cycle brand) have very kindly offered to make us a small number of bespoke tops just for the ride. The quality of the jersey is excellent.(See image below)

If you are interested please sign up on the web site www.greatfoxride.com

Mr Cotter will be organising some training rides from February through to June. These will either be in Richmond Park or Surrey Hills.

Volunteer Readers
"Are you available to read with a child at Fox once a week (for half an hour) to help them develop their reading skills? We are looking for additional readers to help Fox children in Years 1 and 2 with reading and phonics.  You would be supported throughout the scheme. There is training in helping children with phonics for those interested to be held by Miss Clark on Monday 4th February from 3.00 pm to 3.30 pm, at Fox. You will need to have attended the training session in order to start reading with a child and to have an up to date DBS certificate. We do avoid placing readers within their own child's year group.  If interested, please contact Rohan Thornton (Parent Reading Coordinator), email
rohanthornton357@gmail.com or speak to Gerry Johnson (Fox Reading Coordinator), email gerry.johnson@foxprimary.co.uk"
Sugar smart world - Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children should all have received free ‘sugar smart world’ packs in their book bags this week. The packs feature a fun game and stickers to encourage children to spot higher-sugar food and drink and choose healthier everyday swaps. In addition to this, there will be new maths and literacy activities available to download on the School Zone, embedding healthier habits while linking with the national curriculum.
