This Week In and Around the Meeting House

January 22 - 27, 2019
This past Friday the 18th, the UU Meeting House opened its doors to islanders who wished to drop off items to support the Coast Guard and TSA workers who are not getting paid due to the government shut down.

Lindsay Lawellin, the president of Station Brant Point Spouses Organization, was the mover and shaker behind this event. She and I worked closely to make sure that the word was out, that people knew what to bring, and to offer a welcome to all who entered. Cinda Gaynor made a huge pot of soup as did the Corner Table. Dick Clifford from Stop n Shop donated 2 large platters of sandwiches. This was not only a drop off but a drop in event too!

We collected over 100 bags stuffed with food and Shop and Stop gift card after card. Over 250 people entered our flung wide upstairs sanctuary doors as the mist and rain came down. Our smiles and hearts grew into umbrellas wide enough to keep the whole island dry.

I saw people who were supporters and critics of this current administration and no one mentioned politics. Every one ate soup, laughed, and told stories as children ran into and around us. We were all on the same side for this one night.

May this day find you reaching out and in with gratitude and courage.

Are you doing something that reflects one of our Seven Principles? Send us a photo for a chance to be featured in our Monday E-Blast!

This Week's Sermon:
"The Untethered Soul"
Rev. Linda Simmons

What is the soul and how would its untethering contribute to our well being and peace? This sermon will explore concepts of the soul and how showing up in it all, in all of who we are, can offer us the energy and hope we need to live lives of creativity and courage.

Music with Barbara Elder and the UU Meeting House Choir

Religious Exploration with Leyah Jensen & Sherlly Morocoima
We can go only as far, as we stick together. Let's put connectedness to the test this Sunday--with a ROOM-sized KNIT! Its time for a wacky group project, that will serve as the activity to last week's service. Then its your choice between 3 fabulous vintage textile kits...WEAVE with any material you want to throw in the loom. CROCHET for a hammock--using only your hand. KNIT the easy way: in the round!

Sunday, January 27, 10:45 am, Hendrix Hall

The Annual Meeting will follow this week's service. Members are encouraged to attend and vote.
