ANNOUNCEMENTS
Understanding Opioid Addiction
Saturday (tomorrow), 11:00 am

Grace Church will be hosting this Social Issues Forum  with experts from
Haywood County on hand to help all of us understand addiction, in general,
and opioids, more specifically.  Our hope is that all
who attend will grow in knowledge and compassion.
A light brunch will follow the 90-minute presentation featuring experts, community,
and friends closely affected by this plight.

Here is a little background about Social Issues Forums at Grace:
Rationale:  Jesus was passionately engaged in the "social issues" of his time:
hunger, health and healing, and the economically and socially marginalized.
The Church, as the Body of Christ on earth, is also called to engagement in social issues,
especially those affecting our neighbors.
Purpose:  The purpose of these forums is to provide education about
pressing social issues and avenues for Christian service
in partnership with others.  These forums will inform our
outreach ministries and enrich our spiritual lives.
Upcoming Adult Forums
(Sundays, 9:15 am)

This Sunday

Dream Work As Spiritual Practice

Dream work is an ancient Spiritual Practice, the intentional commitment
to recording our nightly dreams, and processing the dream images
so that we understand the messages contained in the dream.
The wonder and curiosity which is integral to dream work carries over to other
areas of life, bringing along a greater comfort with mystery, uncertainty,
and paradox. Dream work offers a method for healing old wounds,
living more fully and joyfully each day, increasing
self-awareness, improving understanding of our life purpose,
and integrating new understandings. Each of these leads, in turn,
to greater empathy and compassion.
Tim Hussey will lead an Adult Forum to introduce the practice of
Dream Work and to invite Grace members to participate
in the 8 weeks of Dream Group to follow.  Please consider
joining us as we form our very own Dream Group
at Grace Church.

Rediscovering this work connects us to a long tradition of honoring the
Dream as a way in which God speaks to us, guides us, informs us,
heals us, and helps us to be conscious of God’s constant presence in our lives.

The Dream Group is a safe container where we share our
Dreams and invite others in the group to help us work out their meanings.

Parishioner Tim Hussey will offer an 8-week Dream Group, beginning
Tuesday, February 5 at 9:00 am in the Library.
Come to one, a few, or all of them

Pantry Sunday is February 3

Pantry Sunday is coming up again soon.  We will need volunteers to take the bags down to the pantry after each service and put items away.  Suggested donations for this month:  breakfast cereals, preferably whole grains (not sugary cereals!).  If you would like to support the Food Pantry with a monetary donation, you may place a check in the offertory plate made payable to “Grace Church” with “Food Pantry” marked on the memo line, OR you can donate online.  Go to the church website and choose “Online Giving,” then “Food Pantry.”  This is a wonderful mission for our church, and we thank you for your support.

On the first Sunday of the month (February 3),
all loose cash collected is deposited into the Rector’s Discretionary Fund.
Any checks specifically marked for Rector’s Discretionary Fund will also be included

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
Please sign up for Coffee Hour!

Coffee hour is fun and very easily done if several friends
get together to provide the snack.
Cheese and crackers, a box of doughnuts, fruit, and coffee is enough.
Some folks like to bring casseroles or sausage and biscuits,
but it doesn't need to be that elaborate.
It is coffee hour . . . a time to get together,
mingle, meet new people, and enjoy everyone's company!

The Sign-Up Sheet is on the bulletin board in Thatcher Hall.

CHALLENGE
Can YOU survive one month in poverty?

Wednesday, February 27, 1:00 - 4:30 pm
Woodland Baptist Church, 545 Crabtree Road, Waynesville

Mountain Projects and the United Way invite you to participate
in the NC Poverty Simulation Experience.
THE EVENT IS FREE.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SURVIVE MAKING MINIMUM WAGE - OR LESS?

The NC Poverty Simulation is an educational event aimed to
raise awareness about the complexities of living in poverty in North Carolina.

This interactive tool provides a window into the lives of North Carolina's
low-income families and the struggles they face
to overcome barriers of joblessness,
homelessness, crime, illiteracy, and the lack of quality childcare.

This event is free and persons receiving an invitation from
Mountain Projects or the United Way are invited to participate.
HOWEVER, registration is required
Please email
Alice Ensley  to register.

How many neighbors in Haywood County live without homes?

The WNC Homeless Coalition is working with the State of NC
to conduct a "census" of people experiencing homelessness.
This data is used in a variety of ways, including grant-writing and funding
and for government and non-profit planning.  In Haywood County,
the Down Home NC group is organizing this "point-in-time count."
Volunteers are needed in three hour shifts the day of the count,
Wednesday, January 30, at 9:00 am, Noon, and 3:00 pm.
Your work may be partnering up with another
volunteer to visit homeless camps
or sorting through donations of clothing and bedding
that will also be distributed that day.
Contact
Chelsea at Down Home NC or via call/text (828) 476-8189
to let her know if you can help out.

A Voice from I Don't Know Where
by Mary Oliver

It seems you love this world very much.
“Yes, I said. “This beautiful world.”

And you don’t mind the mind, that keeps you
busy all the time with its dark and bright wonderings?
“No, I’m quite used to it. Busy, busy,
all the time.”

And you don’t mind living with those questions,
I mean the hard ones, that no one can answer?
“Actually, they’re the most interesting.”

And you have a person in your life whose hand
you like to hold?
“Yes, I do.”

It must surely, then, be very happy down there
in your heart.
“Yes,” I said. “It is.”
