Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,

I am excited to share that through the generous support of the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation and the EGRMS PTO, author and artist Mr. Shawn Sheehy will be working with many of our students next week.  All sixth grade students will work with Mr. Sheehy in their English Language Arts classes (and again a second time in their Art and Innovation Lab classes).  Seventh and eighth grade Art classes will also meet with Mr. Sheehy.  Mr. Sheehy will focus on the design and artistic principles involving “pop-up” art in the many forms it can take.  Many thanks to Mrs. Lampen and Mrs. J. Smith for their leadership to bring this opportunity to our students.

Sincerely,
Anthony Morey
Principal

Schram's Shout-Out

Dear EGRMS Families:

Happy New Year!  Of course as we start the second half of our school year, testing is coming up.  The next testing that will take place is MAP for 6th and 7th graders.  The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, February 4-Tuesday, February 5:  6th grade math
  • Wednesday, February 6 and Friday, February 8:  7th grade math
  • Monday, February 11-Tuesday, February 12:  6th grade reading
  • Wednesday, February 13 and Friday, February 15:  7th grade reading

Anything you can do to help avoid appointments during these times is greatly appreciated!

Our 8th graders will be taking the PSAT test on Tuesday, April 9.  Please be aware that this is the day we return from spring vacation.  Again, anything that you can do to help with attendance on that day will help tremendously.

Finally, all students will be taking the MStep starting in April.  I will be back in touch with further details.

Thank you and have a great week!
Shelly

Kids' Food Basket

Dear Parents,

This year, for our Martin Luther King Day, Jr. Day of Service, our students will be making Supper Packs to be distributed through Kids’ Food Basket, a local organization working to combat childhood hunger. Please find more information on Kids’ Food Basket here.  These Supper Packs will provide the children who are serviced through Kids’ Food Basket one meal for one day. We are planning a school-wide drive to collect the necessary ingredients for the Supper Packs, which will be assembled the week before spring break.

Our school-wide collection drive begins next Thursday, January 31.  All students will be collecting the following items in their BRIDGES classes. Our goal is 50 of each item, so that each Bridges class can assemble at least 50 Supper Packs. Please note items need to be individually pre-packaged.

Items Needed:
Pudding Cups
Fruit Strips
Pretzel or Cheez-It Bag (1.5 oz or smaller)
.28 oz Meat Sticks (two per Supper Pack)

Quart Size Bags
Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
East Grand Rapids Middle School Champions of Diversity Committee

Spring Drama Club!
Spring Drama Club is starting January 31st! This spring, we will be learning acting games and improv, as well as working on a one-act play and monologues! This is a very low-key club that focuses on improving existing acting skills and learning more about the techniques of acting.  Club meetings will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Participating in drama club is a great way to try out acting for the first time or to hone your skills for future productions. Students will have an opportunity to perform what they have learned on May 16 and 17 in the Little Auditorium at the high school. Contact Mrs. Kastanek at mkastane@egrps.org with any questions or visit her website at https://sites.google.com/egrps.org/egrmsdrama/home

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office.  Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”
