International Parent Night

Wednesday, February 6 at 6 PM

Parents, did you attend high school in another country? Do you have any questions about high schools in the United States? We try to keep parents informed, but we’re wondering if international parents have questions we’re not answering. We’d like to help you make informed decisions as your children attend Eastlake. If you have questions, please come to our school’s library on Wednesday, February 6th, at 6:00 pm. We will not have a prepared presentation because we don’t know what questions you might have. This will be a casual conversation.

Possible topics might include registration for next year, graduation requirements and electives, the PTSA, school discipline, English Language Learners, special education and IEPs, SAT and ACT for college testing, our high school guidance counselors, our supports for students who struggle with drugs or alcohol or mental health challenges.

If you have questions about these or any other topics, then please come to the EHS library on February 6th at 6:00 pm. We will have an administrator, a counselor, a teacher, and a PTSA representative to have a conversation with and to answer any questions.

If you need an interpreter or transportation, please email Todd Apple: tapple@lwsd.org

Washington State PTA Focus Day

PTA members adopted a new set of legislative priorities focusing on all aspects of the health, safety, well-being and education of children. Washington State PTA is holding a Focus Day on Monday, February 11 in Olympia, WA to discuss these priorities. Individual PTSA members are welcome to attend. Read more about the day's events here

Lake Washington PTSA Council is opting out of sending a representative group to this event due to member feedback and will not be scheduling meetings at the event with legislators. Instead, they will be hosting local legislators at the Lake Washington PTSA Council brown bag lunch which will be later this year in May.

Community Engagement Forums

Lake Washington School District would like to invite you to a Community Engagement Forum. The purpose of the Community Engagement Forums is to gather feedback from a representative group within our school district which helps  provide recommendations to our Board of Directors as we revise our current district strategic plan for the Lake Washington School District.

Having our community provide us with great ideas and feedback is an important part of this plan, and we hope you can be part of the process.

The Eastlake learning community forum will be held on Thursday, February 7th, 2019 from 4:30pm - 6:30pm at Evergreen School, 6900 208th Ave. NE, Redmond. Snacks will be provided at the meeting.

The forums will focus on six strategic goal areas that are part of the current LWSD Strategic Plan. Participants will be asked to serve as members of a small group that focuses on one of the following areas:

•    Student Achievement
•    Safety and Security
•    Recruit, Hire, and Retain
•    Technology and Innovation
•    Facilities and Finance
•    Communication and Engagement

LWSD values your input in this process and hopes you can join one of these meetings (see additional dates below). In the event that you would like to participate but can’t be physically present at the locations, LWSD is trying something new by providing an option to participate online.

Admission to Top Universities in Canada, England and Europe

Tuesday, February 5th, 6:30pm at the Sammamish Library (FREE)

The King County Library Association is hosting an informative evening on the new trend of American students choosing to complete undergraduate degrees at universities in Canada, England and Europe. Topics will include direct-entry medical school, three-year English-taught bachelor’s degree programs, co-op programs, the financial landscape (spoiler alert: it’s typically less expensive than private or out-of-state colleges in the U.S.) and other little-known tips that make international universities a great option.

Host Homes- King County

The YMCA of Greater Seattle and Friends of Youth have launched a program that will efficiently and effectively house homeless youth. Host Homes King County connects homeless youth with supportive hosts in the community that have a spare room who can provide short-term, stable housing. They are seeking individuals and families who are willing to provide a caring and stable environment, and host a young person (12-24 years old) for up to 6 months. Hosts will be able to provide young people with the support needed to develop independent living skills and a safe space to work toward becoming stable and self-sufficient. Most importantly, young people are able to build and expand their community.
For more information on the Host Homes King County program, contact Kimberly Turner at kimberlyturner@seattleymca.org or 206-458-8971, or visit the website.
