Greetings fellow mountain bikers- thanks for spending a moment with me right here in your inbox, I appreciate it very much! I’ll keep this note short:
I’ve re-signed with PNW Components, and have a discount code I can offer ya’ll! It’s good for 15% off your order from the PNW website, and it’s simply “ridelikejeff”.
I’ve also re-signed with Kitsbow! I have posted a 25% (one time use per customer) discount code for Kitsbow to my Patreon page as well.
Speaking of Patreon, for January’s riding tutorial, I’ve focused on “how to boost”, with a full tutorial video that breaks down the steps into getting more height out of a jump. My approach to maximizing amplitude on jumps is to work WITH the natural transition of the jump. I’ll initiate the pumping motion in advance of the take off, then I actually hesitate for just a moment to allow the bike’s upwards trajectory to follow the jump’s arc. Then as I get to the top of the lip, I’ll start to do a bunnyhop. If you’re not familiar with my riding tutorials, I post one per month to my Patreon page.
How I get max amplitude out of jumps!
January has been a super fun month for videos. With a trip to Phoenix at the end of December, we had a bunch of adventures that were worth sharing with ya’ll! First up, here’s an overall trip vlog. I really enjoy watching a well-made vlog, how about you?
Perhaps the BEST video from that trip would be the hill climb challenge, where my friend Bobby and I attack the famous “hike a bike” climb on Tucson, Arizona’s Bug Springs trail. And yes, that rock I fell off was well over head height.

Also posted was a fun vlog-type video joining Bryan Mason, Pivot sales manager, on a quick spin in his super classic 1959 MGA1600. If you’re not familiar with such a car, it’s tiny, old, and very eccentric. And pretty fun:
Bryan Mason's bizarre old car!
On a second trip to Arizona, I visited Sedona, where I was able to meet up with Nate Hills, Kyle Mears, Lars Romig, James Weingarten, and Craig Hill. We had a BLAST, and even rode some of the awesome Sedona trails LIVE on YouTube!
