Welcome Two New Clubs in Fairfield

The Fairfield City School District is a very large district with six elementary schools. CEF did not have any Good News Clubs in the district until January 16th when two church-sponsored clubs from two different churches started on the same day. Please welcome and pray for our teams and students!

A Different Kind of Training

CEF has a wonderful and well-deserved reputation for its effective Good News Club volunteer training. From how to present Bible lessons to counseling children about salvation to teaching Bible verses using iPEAR (introduce, present, explain, apply and review), volunteers are well-equipped. .
However, one challenge most of us experience at one time or another is club discipline.To help with this we are holding a special Club Discipline and Management Workshop that is open to all those in clubs plus others in children's ministry such as Sunday School and VBS teachers.

Guest speaker Phil Miekley, a 40+ years Madeira public school teacher and elder at Northern Hills Bible Chapel, knows the needs and issues in the classroom and his insights are helpful. Guest speaker Pat Daniels is the Urban Ministries Teacher Trainer for the Miami Valley CEF chapter and she will be assisted by Nance McNew, the chapter's Director. There will also be a panel Q&A discussion that will add Sarah Hartsough, a 2016 graduate of Cedarville University who works with challenged Cincinnati Public Schools children.

Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Roger Wismer who serves in the Lebanon club at Donovan Elementary. Roger, known as Senor Guapo to the kids, enjoys teaching the Bible lesson and has done so for the past six years. He also enjoys connecting with the kids and their parents when they pick up their children. We asked Roger a few questions so you can get to know him.
Q: How did you get involved with Good News Club?
A: A few visionary folks from our church started three Good News Clubs and I saw how excited they were about being able to share the gospel clearly in public schools. My wife and I visited a few sessions and decided that this was a great ministry that would easily fit our schedules.

Q: Why are you so passionate about Good News Club?
A: GNC is a great way to become more involved in evangelism (a difficult area for most of us individually and as a church) and a natural way for people at my stage of life to really make a difference in children's lives without a lot of extra work or hassle. The materials are excellent and the lessons are very biblical. I'm surprised how interested most of the children are, many are from broken homes and many don't have Bibles, so Good News Club is a real testimony to these children and families. 

Q: What are the biggest blessings of Good News Club?
A: To see young, impressionable lives impacted with the gospel! Many have never heard the Bible stories or the truth about our sin and need for a Savior. What a privilege to be able to reach into these young lives and families with the Word of God and our friendship every week.

Roger and his wife, Shirley, live in Lebanon and have been married 48 years. He is an elder, a founding board member of Mars Hill Academy and has been involved in the pro-life movement with his church's sidewalk educator ministry. Roger is a doting grandpa of three boys which, as he puts it, is the "frosting on the cake."
