The 2019 Boulder Provincials have just finished and we are getting Team BC ready to head to Boulder Nationals, taking place in Montréal (YBN) and Calgary (OBN). Congrats to all our boulder athletes who have been working hard this season and good luck to those continuing through to Nationals!
That's a wrap . . .
A huge shoutout to all the volunteers and the host gyms who helped put together the final boulder comps of the season. These events are successful because of the hard work put in by everyone involved in the organization and running of the competition. Thank you! 😀 Here are the SCBC-sanctioned comps held since our last newsletter:
Climb Base5 North Vancouver hosted another successful Olympic Format event that saw athletes compete in all three disciplines in two days. Always an athlete favourite, it is fun to see how rankings in different disciplines come together for the overall result.
Project Climbing Cloverdale was host to SCBC Youth Boulder Provincials, with our best Youth B, C and D athletes working hard for provincial titles and tickets to nationals.
BoulderHouse in Victoria hosted SCBC Open Boulder Provincials, the final chance for our Youth A, Junior and Open athletes to gain qualifying points for nationals.

SCBC Committees Updates
Sport Development Committee: Working at putting together "Climbing Day in BC"; stay tuned, this is sure to be an exciting event to introduce our sport to new participants and celebrate the climbing community we already have!
Sport Performance Committee: Looking at the High Performance Program from the CEC to see how SCBC and our athletes will transition in to that program.
Competition Committee: Constantly busy, working on the day to day aspects of competitions and putting together streamlined and clear information for next year.
Web Committee: Completed a tech inventory and are looking at where we need to go next.
SCBC is looking to building our pool of Technical Delegates and Jury Presidents to officiate at our local and provincial events.
Technical Delegate (TD) - works with the JP and Hosting facility to ensure the competition abides by SCBC rules and regulations and ensure fair play for all athletes
Jury President (JP) - has overall responsibility within all competition areas (climbing walls, ISO etc.) and is responsible for all aspects of judging in the competition
Competition Belayers - work to keep our athletes safe while on top rope and lead; training provided, but should have experience and be comfortable lead belaying
If you are interested in learning more about these positions and possibly helping out at competitions this year, please contact president@sportclimbingbc.ca. Much on-the-job training will be provided by experienced officials and interested individuals will gain experience by shadowing experienced officials prior to having the opportunity to be a lead official.

Coaches heading to Nationals are reminded that a CEC Coach Licence is required to gain access to coach areas.
SCBC is still looking for coaches to join the Provincial Coaching Team heading to Nationals. Please contact secretary@sportclimbingbc.ca if you are interested in being a Team Official or have any questions. Team Officials work with all members of Team BC at National events to ensure all athletes have coaching representation and support. SCBC covers the cost of the CEC Coach Licence for all Officials.

Do you have any questions or comments for your Athlete Rep? Ideas about how we can make competitions and climbing better? A good time to touch base with Derek is at the end of an SCBC competition. He can also be reached via email at athleterep@sportclimbingbc.ca
We try to share competition schedules with our members in a timely manner, but posted schedules are always PROVISIONAL. Due to the fluid nature of competition logistics, comp schedules are ALWAYS subject to change. It is your responsibility to check the comp schedule daily after registration closes. Although rare, schedules can change even the during the comp, so always check on the official notice board or with comp officials for last minute changes during the competition before you leave the building between rounds.
