Fundraising news

Welcome to our very first OTR Friends Newsletter! As a supporter of OTR Bristol, you will be receiving this newsletter once a month from us. We hope to keep you up to date with our fundraising activities and general news from OTR, as well as fundraising and mental health tips. Please send us your feedback and encourage your colleagues and friends to sign up also!

In this January newsletter, we're telling you about our annual plans and Charity of the Year supporters. We are currently finalising our first fundraising strategy, so in this newsletter, you will find a handy calendar of mental health-related events for 2019 which we hope to provide some inspiration for activities to support us. We are planning staff activities for the year too, so there will be plenty of opportunities for you join in and meet us - we will undoubtedly do a skydive this summer and participate in the Big Give Christmas Challenge in November as well, so please get in touch if you want to take part!

We are currently receiving great messages of support from local companies who wish to work with us as their Charity of the Year. As always, we are learning and talking to all of them about the best ways to collaborate. I have spent my first months at OTR Bristol talking to our supporters about their needs and reasons to support us.

Working with companies throughout the year allows us to raise significant funds for our work but also strengthen the links with the community. We hope that this way we can also reach even more young people who might need our support. If you know of any companies that might like to work with us this year, please email me or let them know about this opportunity - we have listed the benefits of working with us in our Fundraising Pack so feel free to share it.

Our thanks go to...

In 2018 the following organisations supported us with fundraising, donations and their expertise: All Saints Church in Clifton, ASDA Patchway, Bray Leino, Edo, Hollis Morgan, Irwin Mitchell, Marks & Spencer Longwell Green, Meade King, Office for Students, Rider Levett Bucknall, Tinto LoungeUnite Students. Some of them decided to stay with us for another year, which is brilliant! In 2019 I hope to find and develop many new ways to engage with our Charity of the Year companies, especially around tips and support with our mental health expertise, so I am thrilled you are still with us. This winter we have also been chosen by the following organisations: Bristol & District Chartered Accountant Students' Society, BDO LLP,  Bristol Junior Lawyers Division, University of Bristol Hindu Society, University of Bristol Rugby Club, Wards Solicitors

We are incredibly grateful for their support and look forward to working with all of you! Please note that sometimes people fundraise for us without getting in touch so if you were not mentioned, do let us know!

We welcome new companies and organisations all throughout the year so if you want to have us as your Charity of the Year, please get in touch!

Diffusion

At OTR we are starting the year with a few exciting projects - and one we particularly want to tell you about is Diffusion. This is OTR's enterprise project where we are hoping to raise money from our knowledge and skills in working with young people. We have listened to the feedback from our supporters and in response put together a series of mental health training - and all our courses are now on sale

We run a variety of training courses to give people the confidence, knowledge and skills to support young people’s mental health - and we draw on fifty years experience of supporting young people and a unique take on mental health to offer engaging, relevant and practical training.

If this is relevant to you, you can always find the full list here or email Cat for more information or more tailored support.

Notes from OTR Team
Charlotte Randomly, Team Leader (Health Promotion): "2019 welcomes a new member of the health promotion team to OTR and sees us reigniting our Resilience Lab project after a short pause over the Autumn. Bronwen Rashad has joined us to lead on the delivery of Resilience Lab workshops to school, colleges and other youth settings across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
Resilience Lab offers workshops that support young people to learn skills for successfully navigating the inevitable challenges that they will encounter in life. Health promotion work like this is a key part of what we offer and plays a vital role in enabling young people to develop strategies that will positively impact on their mental health for years to come."
Cat Taylor, Head of Enterprise: "Diffusion is a really exciting new venture for OTR and it's all about getting out into the community to can hand over our skills and knowledge directly. We've already worked providing mental health training, workshops and talks to all sorts of organisations including a hairdressing academy, rugby and tennis clubs and a warehouse firm - because what better way to support young people than to support all the networks in the world around them."
Featured Skills Offer

Some of our supporters offer their skills to enhance our work and help us save on operating costs. In December a group of Bristol City College students recorded a promotional video for us. Thank you so much, Peter, Frank, Jake, Alec!

OTR Shopping List

In response to some of our Charity of the Year supporters, we have created an online shopping list. If you prefer to donate items to OTR instead of (or as well as!) raising funds, please check out this list. This month we are featuring a wish-list of items for Nature Works to help us kick off the project - we will keep the list updated during the year!

Support Materials

This month we are reminding you about our new Fundraising Pack (you can download it here) and sharing the 2019 calendar of mental health-related events. We hope these materials will support your plans too and we look forward to any additional tips and ideas!
