Film by RSP Architects Shines Spotlight
on First Place–Phoenix

Please take a moment to enjoy this wonderful film about First Place produced by RSP Architects, an amazing group of talented individuals and longtime champions of our cause. First Place–Phoenix is a testament to the benefits of collaboration with partners like RSP and to the powerful potential of thoughtful, purposeful design. We're in awe of this living, breathing and thriving property and all who live, learn and work here—each and every day!

First Place Residents Lend an Ear
to New Music Series Guest

Residents of First Place–Phoenix enjoyed the chance to listen to guest musician and music teacher Charlie Smith playing the piano at a recent Feel Good Friday gathering. Community life staff and resident members of CORE—Council of Resident Engagement—came up with the idea for the Friday music series. Residents, staff and guests gather in the Cox Community Room at 5 p.m. every Friday to relax and listen to local musicians like Charlie.

Safety First, Peace of Mind Follows

Thanks to generous support from the Gila River Indian Community, loved ones and staff can rest easy knowing that every stove in the First Place–Phoenix Apartments is equipped with an iGuardStove motion sensor and automatic shut-off device. If no movement is detected around the stove within a prescribed period of time, the stove is turned off. iGuardFire CEO and founder Bill Ferguson of British Columbia in Canada, manufacturer of this unique device, recently visited to train First Place staff and residents—and to enjoy some of our famous Phoenix “winter” weather!

Another Touchdown for First Place!

This year’s football season might be over, but the Arizona Cardinals continue their invaluable support of First Place by recently honoring founder and CEO Denise Resnik with the team’s annual Community Quarterback Award. Thank you to everyone at the Arizona Cardinals who do so much, in so many ways, to support our communities!

Seeking Solutions for a Surging Population Affected by Severe Forms of Autism

We applaud and welcome the creation of the National Council on Severe Autism (NCSA), an organization focused on addressing the serious challenges facing individuals affected by severe forms of autism, their families and caregivers. More segmentation can help to inform service and housing needs, allowing the marketplace to respond with more effective, pioneering solutions.

Read more about the NCSA in a psychologytoday.com article by founding member Amy S.F. Lutz, who notes, “Fortunately, families like mine have a critical new ally in our fight to create authentic awareness, honest acceptance, improved national policy, and, ultimately, the best possible lives for the growing population of Americans disabled by autism.”
