Drop Deadlines 
Course not going as planned? Keep these drop deadlines in mind: 
Friday, February 1
  • Last day to drop a course yourself, via Student Center 
  • No 'W' on record 
  • Course 'disappears' from your advising report as if you had never enrolled 
Friday, March 22
  • Last day to drop a course
  • Will receive 'W' (Withdrawn) on record 
  • Must complete Change Ticket form from 210 Kottman front desk and have a student services staff member perform the drop

Grade Forgiveness Deadline Approaching 

Do you have a course that you need to repeat?
Remember that now all students, not just freshmen, can use the Grade Forgiveness Rule up to three times.  If you had courses previously forgiven under Freshmen Forgiveness, that does count against your three opportunities.

To have a course that you are taking this spring forgive a previous grade, you must meet with your academic advisor and submit the Grade Forgiveness petition. The deadline to submit the petition is the 4th Friday of the term, February 1.

Nominate your Faculty Mentor for an Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award  

The Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry (OUR&CI) offers the Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award to honor individuals who have demonstrated success in mentoring undergraduates in their research and/or creative inquiry endeavors.

SENR Student Leadership Board

The School of Environment and Natural Resources is looking for dedicated 1st-3rd year students to apply to the SENR Student Leadership Board. Student leaders shape the SENR experience as either Ambassadors or Peer Mentors for the school. Ambassadors serve as a resource for prospective students, hosting campus visits and info session, as well as engaging in community building and professional development within the SENR community. Peer Mentors integrate new students into the SENR community by mentoring first year and transfer students, engaging in the survey class content, and acting as a resource for peers throughout the School. If you are passionate about your major and your community, please consider applying to the SENR Student Leadership Board!

Have a passion for environmental stewardship or sustainable community engagement? Partner with Time for Change week 2019! Be a part of this collaboration between student organizations, campus administrators, and university offices by planning an event or project to occur during this weeklong initiative. Pathways to Sustainability Careers 
Learn about the variety of careers that impact sustainability on Wednesday, January 23, from 1:45 to 3:45 pm in the Performance Hall of the Ohio Union.  Meet representatives from business, government, and non-profit sectors who are helping make our society more sustainable through their current jobs.  The event is designed to maximize time for students to interact with the professionals with no speeches or presentations to sit through.  Register for the event here (for a chance to win a $50 REI gift card) or simply show up.  The event is free to Ohio State students.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Scholarship Available for Urban Forestry Students
Annual award provides $5,000 stipend to students studying urban forests and their benefits.
 Applications for the Garden Club of America (GCA) Zone VI Fellowship — aimed to advance the study of urban forestry and grow the number of researchers in the field — are now being accepted.
To be eligible to apply, individuals must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a U.S. institution during the 2018-2019 academic year. Applicants must also be pursuing a degree in urban forestry, environmental studies, horticulture, forestry, or related courses of study with a special interest in urban forestry. The fellowship includes a $5,000 stipend to support students studying the planning, management, horticulture and ecology of urban forests and the effect of healthy urban forests on people and the environment.
Previous awardees of the GCA Zone VI Fellowship are eligible to apply, and recipients may apply for an additional year. Complete applications must be received by January 31, 2019. Application details available at caseytrees.org/education/urban-forestry-fellowship.
Service Information: 
Travel by chartered bus.  Work days from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Evenings are free with an additional ½ day of leisure.
Participants should have clothes suitable for manual labor and closed-toed shoes to work in. They should also have an additional pair of closed-toed shoes suitable for use in water.  Tools, work gloves, sunscreen, and bug spray provided.  A reusable water bottle and lunch bag is required.

Undergraduate Research Day at Capitol Square 
The Offices of Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry (OUR&CI) and Government Affairs encourage undergraduates to apply for Undergraduate Research Day at Capitol Square Tuesday (2/26). During an interactive poster session, undergraduates may discuss their research and creative activities with state legislators. Must be Ohio resident; full-time undergrad during the 2018-19 academic year at any Ohio State campus; and have completed a research or creative project under a faculty member's supervision. Apply by Monday (2/4) at 5 p.m. Mandatory orientation session Sunday (2/10) 5-6:30 pm.

Scholarship Opportunity  
The Undergraduate Fellowship Office is currently seeking applicants for the Udall Scholarship, which provides a $7000 award for current sophomores and juniors who are committed to issues related to the environment or Native American nations. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their commitment to environmental or Native American issues through leadership and public service. The Udall Foundation defines sophomores as students who have completed at least 3 semesters of college coursework since high school, and juniors must have one full academic year remaining. Interested students can e-mail fellowships@osu.edu for more information, and for the application materials.
CFAES Research Forum 
The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences is calling for abstracts for the CFAES Undergraduate Research Forum, scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, 2019, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, in the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. Participation in this event will prepare students for the OSU Spring Undergraduate Research Festival. Students enrolled in any undergraduate degree program in CFAES and the School of Environment and Natural Resources are invited to participate, provided they have a CGPA ≥ 2.5 and are engaged in supervised research projects in the area of their major. If a research project is ongoing and will not be completed by March 1, a research-in-progress summary may be submitted in lieu of an abstract.
•    All participants will be rewarded with a $50 gift card from Barnes & Noble!
•    Research that has been presented in another venue is welcome.
•    By submitting an abstract, the student agrees to present the research at the Forum.
•    Final presentations are in the form of poster presentations and will be judged by faculty.

Research for Undergraduates Program at Miami University 
Miami University (in Oxford, OH) is excited to announce that we are now accepting applications to our Research Experience for Undergraduates program. The program is focused on Ecology in Human Dominated Landscapes. 


Undergraduate students accepted into the program will:
-Conduct an independent research project with a faculty mentor at Miami University. Research opportunities are available in the lab or field in aquatic or terrestrial environments.
-Disseminate their research at the REU research symposium
-Discuss current literature related to their projects with faculty mentors and student peers in clusters related to their project. 
-Attend team-building field trips around the regional Midwest.
-Take short courses on ethics and professions in ecology and environmental science, and interact with seminars by guest speakers.
-Participate in field trips illustrating the natural history of Southwestern Ohio.
