Hello! I am on vacation this week, so I am writing this in the past and you are reading it in the future. Here are some lovely and/or amazing things from some recent point in time:
- A wild thing about being alive right now is that there is a non-zero chance aliens are trying to contact us and it's not really in the top 20 as a news story.
- The amazing story of a husband and wife who found out she had a fatal genetic disease and responded by quitting their jobs and, with no previous scientific background, going back to school to become medical researchers and find for a cure before her time runs out.
- A "micropod" about mental health and creativity from Mary H.K. Choi. (Scroll down to the episodes called "Hey, Cool Life.") It reminds me a bit of Choire Sicha's daily morning mini-podcasts for The Awl from many internets ago.
- Anime stairs and sukashi blocks.
- How to talk to people, take 1 and take 2.
- Tools! If you're a chronic over-apologizer like I am, there is now a Chrome extension for that; remove a background from an image for meme-ing purposes with no Photoshop required.
- "Recently I decided my favorite YouTube genre is 'teenagers getting pulled on stage to perform with their idols and melting everyone’s faces off.'”
- A video I have watched many times is this one, of a Canadian guy who is maybe an actual reincarnation of Freddie Mercury? Here he is also doing all of the parts of Bohemian Rhapsody by himself.
- A classic: Advice for outsiders by Erin Kissane.
- Rest in peace, Mary Oliver:
Someone I loved once gave me
a box full of darkness.
It took me years to understand
that this, too, was a gift.

P.S. No jobs this week—make sure to check out the jobs in last week's edition if you missed it, because there were a ton. Bye.
