FRIDAY LETTER

Storm Update

Unfortunately, Village, the storm last night hit us very hard.  Fortunately there are not injuries - residents, guests, staff, or contractors.

We have 12 street closures due to trees that have fallen on electrified wires, and although our staff and contractors are out in force only PGE's staff and contractors can remove trees touching or adjacent to 'live wires.'  A significant trunk line transformer just outside the City blew up, which is the main cause of the City-wide power outage.  PGE doesn't expect restoration of power until early this evening.  We have detours marked on the closed streets where available and PGE has crews redirecting traffic.  PGE has dispatched 15, two-person crews to the Peninsula.  Due to the extent of the damage to the City, we have requested the majority of those crews but expect three to four at the most.

In coordination with the Executive Director, we've opened the Carmel Youth Center as a warming center.  Please come down to power your mobile devices and get a cup of coffee or water.  City staff are receiving people at the CYC, and will provide whatever information we have from PGE.  We're sending an 'Alert Monterey County' notification as well as a 'Next Door' notification informing residents of the services we have available.  And on that note, City Hall is open for information only as it too is without power, and both libraries are closed for the day along with Sunset Cultural Center.

CERT is walking the Village, Seniors helping Seniors are visiting our less fortunate, Max and Marc and Joel and everyone else available are sweeping around town.

Be safe, stay inside if you don't need to go out.  Without question call 9-1-1 if you're experiencing an emergency.  Call me (521.8061) or Max (869.9426) if you need anything else you think we can provide.

Take the best of care.
