NW Leaders Receive Lifetime Achievement Awards

Minner Labrador Jr., Upper Columbia Conference president, and Greg Hamilton, Northwest Religious Liberty Association president, each received a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's North American Division (NAD) Ministries Convention. Labrador was honored for his longtime efforts on behalf of men's ministries. Hamilton received his award for 30 years of combined pastoral and religious liberty ministry. The 2019 NAD Ministries Convention was held Jan. 13–16 in Albuquerque, N.M.

ADRA Awards ACS $50,000 for Fire Survivors

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) will provide financial support totaling $50,000 to Adventist Community Services (ACS), which has been coordinating efforts to help survivors recover from the Camp Fire in Butte County, Calif. The fire, which was finally contained on Nov. 25, has been declared the nation’s deadliest in a century, according to local authorities. With help from ADRA, ACS will be able to purchase and distribute 1,000 kitchen kits to families in need.

Singers and Songwriters Invited to Join 2019 inSpire Contest

Adventist songwriters are invited to participate in the fifth inSpire songwriting contest. This year's focus is on singer/songwriter style songs that convey a heartfelt spiritual message. Each songwriter can submit one song they have written and recorded as a video on their smartphone. The song submitted must be original, never before entered into a previous inSpire contest. Neither should it be derivative of other copyrighted works. No modified hymns, please. Deadline for submissions is Jan. 31. Click Read More for details on entering the contest.

Partners for Palau Seeks School Reading Resources

As part of the North Pacific Union Conference Partners for Palau effort, Northwest school administrators and teachers are being asked to help supply our partner school, Palau Adventist Elementary School, with all the Life Reading program materials they need. Currently, K–8 enrollment there is about 250 students. NPUC-area schools no longer using their stored supply of Life Reading series reading books, teacher’s guides, and even unused Skilpaks, Criterion Exercises, and study books are asked to bring them to the NPUC Education Council at Walla Walla University on Jan. 28. NPUC will arrange for shipment to Koror, Palau. Click Contact for additional information.

WWU Students Support International Literacy Program

Every year the Associated Students of Walla Walla University (ASWWU) Global Service division chooses an international project to support. This year ASWWU Global Service will partner with a nonprofit organization called Room to Read to bring the gift of literacy to children in an elementary school in Nuwakot, Nepal. The joint project, called In His Name, is working to raise $35,000 during the 2018–19 school year.
