"This must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursday."
- Arthur Dent, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

Hey there,

Welcome to Thoroughly Thursday, the Rain/Sleet/Snow Edition. As of this writing, it's been raining in SoCal for FOUR DAYS. I get that for other parts of the world four days doesn't seem like a lot. But, here, it feels like Noah's Great Flood has returned. In a locale that spends months (sometimes years) being dusty and parched, the rain is a wonderful change. I've been meaning to invest in a better umbrella, but it never seems like a priority when it may be two years before the next rain shower. In the meantime, I guess I'll keep stealing my daughter's giant rainbow one when it suddenly starts to pour.

What I'm Watching - Seriously, How Cold Is that Water?
Earlier this week, my sister posted a video on Facebook of ladies swimming in the icy waters on the coast of the Faroe Islands, which are a collection of tiny islands between Norway and Iceland (think sheep, lots of sheep). Each morning, these women strip down to their suits, rub cold sand on their skin, and then (willingly) do calisthenics in the surf. It looks horrifying but oddly serene. The film was created by Green Renaissance, a filmmaking collective that wishes to inspire change through "beautiful, meaningful stories." You can check them out here.

Who I'm Promoting - They Just Keep Growing
I'm happy to announce that good friend and amazing instructional designer, Julie Winkle Giulioni, is celebrating the release of the 2nd Edition of her book Help Them Grow or Watch Them Go: Career Conversations Organizations Need and Employees Want. A fantastic and insightful book on career development, it's a must-have for executives, managers, HR directors, and team leaders. I suggest buying a copy for yourself and everyone in your office. But, before you tell me that you work with way too many people, let me share that Julie is graciously allowing me to give five copies of the ebook version of this latest edition to Thoroughly Thursday subscribers. Reply to this email if you are interested.

What I'm Thinking About - A Big Deal about a Green Future
"In Boy Scouts, we were taught to always leave the campground better than we found it. I want a #GreenNewDeal to give our children a viable, healthy planet -- better than we found it. Yes, there are other polluters; yes, it's ambitious AF; but we're Americans, we lead."

- Alexis Ohanian Sr. - Co-Founder of Reddit

All the best, and remember, tomorrow is Friday. :)
