We are looking at winter weather again this weekend, expecting rain sometime on Saturday, preparing for it with the canopies up.  On Sunday, the forecast calls for the temperatures to drop precipitously, so Monday will be a good opportunity to warm up the house with oven cooked stews, and slow cooked meats in your crockpot.  Get some extra eggs and make a deliciously decadent cake, cookies or sweet bread.  Treats from your kitchen are a very pleasant way to fight back against winter weather.
There are a couple of  short term changes at the market.  Riccardo and Katherine Stocco have welcomed a new baby girl into their family.  Gelato Italiano will be with us this Saturday, and take a break during February, planning to return the first of March. Stop by their stand this Saturday, stock up on some soup or gelato, and ask Isabella about the new baby.  Also, my surgery has been delayed until February 5; that is, unless there is an opening sometime a week earlier than that.  So you are stuck with me at the market for a couple more weeks.  My sons will still be bringing all the greens, apples, root vegetables, preserves, eggs, and wildcaught Alaskan fish on the Saturdays I cannot be present, but baked goods will be unavailable until I can bake again.  If you are feeling a little unsettled and confused, I totally understand.  You can add some irritation to my list of feelings.  Anyhow, we will get through this winter together, ready for good times in the spring.
The Freight Station Farmers Market is open Tuesdays, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
