Lessons learned from around the world

New policy report

The second report in our Building Momentum series has just been released. It explores how to implement a front-of-pack food label (FOPL), in the face of a lack of political will and industry interference, by taking the lessons learned from governments all over the world who have already developed and implemented a FOPL.

These labels are an effective and appropriate policy measure to tackle the growing burden caused by diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, by helping consumers make informed, healthier choices. Yet labels continue to be hotly debated. Strong commercial interests continue to derail and weaken nutrition policy globally, which makes WCRF International’s second Building Momentum report even more timely. This report is a valuable tool as it outlines how to defend FOPLs in the face of determined opposition.

Research spotlight: blood cancer

In 2018, we awarded funding to Dr Bronwyn Kingwell of the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Australia for her new project, which she is now starting work on. Her research will look at preventing the adverse cardiometabolic consequences of allogeneic stem cell transplant in blood cancer patients using physical activity.
