Spring quiet days and events 2019

St Chad's House, Leek

Welcome to this programme of events at St Chad's House, Leek between January and April, which will take us right through Lent and after Easter.

This term there are the regular monthly quiet days, each with its own particular theme. One of these will be repeated in February on a Saturday for those who would like to benefit from the regular quiet day format but can't attend on a weekday.

There are three events during Lent. I am delighted that Cathy Malins is leading a day using fused glass - Cathy is an artist based in Leek who will lead a day on the theme of Refined by Fire.
And, as well as the March monthly quiet day, there will be a day engaging with the prayer of lament, intended as a gentle introduction to this valuable form of prayer.

I am also pleased to say that, over Christmas, repairs have been made to the alleyway at the rear of the house which improves access.

You are welcome to these events at St Chad's House. And please let others know of events that might interest them.

With blessings

Mike Fitzsimmons
Warden

Forthcoming events...

On the Mountain and in the Valley

Saturday 9th February, 10.00am to 3.30pm

There are many significant experiences of God that have happened on mountains: people talk about 'mountain-top experiences'. The valley times can be significant too: the low times, the ordinary times, the painful or desperate times.

This day will focus on a number of scenes from scripture featuring mountains and valleys and offer ways of reflecting on some of their significance for our own lives.

Includes a shared home-cooked lunch.

Suggested donation: £10.

(This day is a repeat of January's monthly quiet day and will follow the same pattern with a short service of healing and wholeness at the end of the day.)

Full materials and tuition provided and you will create your own piece of glass as a lasting reminder of the presence and faithfulness of God. Suitable for all, no experience needed.

The day includes a home-cooked lunch.

Suggested donation is £25 (which covers food and all art materials).

Meeting God in Lament

Saturday 13th April, 10.00am to 3.30pm

We don't often get a chance to engage with the prayer of lament, but this form of prayer is modelled in scripture and valuable for helping us be real in our relationship with God.

Towards the end of Lent, we might reflect on how the world is still affected by pain, injustice, sorrow and loss. How do we deal with the sadness and outrage of suffering in the world and our own lives?

This day will offer an introduction to lament with some biblical guidance and space to engage with lamenting prayer at your own pace.

The day will be framed in the context of the God whose love is unending, whose will is for the good of the whole world and to whom we can bring all our emotions and responses to the wrongs we perceive in complete trust. There will also be people available to pray with anyone who would like it.

The day will include a shared home-cooked lunch.

Suggested donation: £10.

Monthly Quiet Days

with optional prayer for healing and wholeness

Our monthly Quiet Days are an opportunity to enjoy some quiet space with not too much structure. Each day has a different theme, sometimes linked to the church festivals.

These are run on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

During the day there are three times of prayer together with the rest of the day for individual quiet time. A reflection on the theme for the day will be offered in the morning and afternoon and suggestions for use in the quiet time are provided.

The day will include a home-cooked lunch.

At the end of each day there is a service of healing and wholeness and an opportunity to be prayed for if you want to.

Suggested donation is £10.
(If the cost is a barrier you are welcome to come and give what you can.)
