Arts Integration and the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP)
The Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) is a taxonomic coding scheme of instructional programs. Its purpose is to facilitate the organization, collection, and reporting of fields of study and program completions. These are the categories into which every listing in a university's degree catalog gets classified. This is an opportunity for the A2RU network to influence how fields of study are classified, and we need your expertise and feedback.
WHAT IS THIS ABOUT? The Secretary of Education has announced proposed updates to the CIP for 2020, and a 60-day public comment period ending February 25, 2019 is currently open for members of the public to review and comment on the changes.
The Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (A2RU) is seeking input and experience from the community in order to improve and comments on the proposed changes—primarily in the VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS and MULTI/INTERDISCIPLINARY clusters. Are there programs that don’t fit well within the coding scheme, or categories that could better reflect the current state of arts-integrative practice?
