Cabin fever, anyone?  We are so looking forward to the upcoming week.  I have spent far too much time sitting, doing paperwork, adding columns of figures, and looking up briefly to check the outside weather conditions.  As most of you know, farmers work every day.  There are always chores to be done, animals to be tended, greenhouses to check, eggs to gather, and, when it snows, shoveling and plowing.  You can add tax planning, seed ordering, nursery stock replacement, and odd repairs to that list.  If one grows winter greens, you must jump on the warmer weather days for picking and washing.  We confess that we do stay in bed a little later, and move more slowly during the cold weather  months; but as soon as they pass, we are all back on our treadmills, running from task to task, and falling ever farther behind each day.  As much as we might hate the snow and the cold, we do need the slight break it brings.  When it snows, we can no longer hear the traffic on I-81.  The silence brings a momentary peace to our souls.  The blanket of white covers the dead grass, rocks, and dirt, leaving it all brightly clean.  Just for a moment, we can believe that the covered world is a blank slate on which we can write anew, before crashing iinto the reality of inside and outside chores.
The snow will stop today and the lot will be plowed and ready for us Saturday morning.  Your work starts when you come to the market and select what you need for feeding your friends and family on Super Bowl Sunday and the rest of the week.  We look forward to seeing each of you.

LAST NOTE:  With my knee surgery scheduled for Tuesday, you will not see me at the market for a few weeks.  Mayfair Farm will not be present on Tuesdays, but our sons will cover SATURDAYS for me.  On SATURDAYS, you will be able to get all of our products, except baked goods.  They will have to wait until I am back on my feet and working again.  I will miss you all, but please continue to support the other vendors on a weekly basis.
The Freight Station Farmers Market is open Tuesdays, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Vendors vary depending on the day.
Thanks for supporting our market!
