Top Actions:

One of the things we love most about the Indivisible movement is how it motivates & engages folks who used to sit on the sidelines. Maybe we voted in every election. Maybe we made phone calls now and then. But before 11/6/2016, how many of us bookmarked congress.gov, put our Members of Congress on speed dial, met with congressional staff? Passed action items on to friends? Canvassed, phonebanked, textbanked, or postcarded for candidates in non-presidential elections? Used "postcarded" as a verb?

This is you. And all this — the events, the meetings, the content for the newsletter and blog posts — is all of us, together. If your resolution was to do a little more in 2019, drop us a line — because right now, we have work for you to do.

Here are some easy, important ways you can fight the Trump regime.

  1. New wall funding, NO!
  2. Green New Deal, YES!
  3. New contract for Oakland teachers, NOW!

Action #1: We still say DONT build that wall!

Deadline: every day through February 15, 2019 - Tell our members of Congress: Keep the government open, without funding for the border wall! The shutdown is over — for a minute. But the new bipartisan committee only has until Feb.15 to come up with a compromise bill, or Mr. Tantrum may smash the game again or issue a bogus emergency declaration in order to get his funding. Keep the calls coming, because the opposition sure is! Read our article for background info, call scripts, contact info, and more.

Action #2: Let the sun rise on a Green New Deal

Deadline: February 4, and also afterward - Barely into 2019, our Members of Congress are about to be able to show — and act on — their support for the Green New Deal. Two resolutions supporting the GND are proposed in the House and Senate during the week of February 4. Tell our MoCs to support the Green New Deal, publicly support the upcoming resolutions, and vote for the resolutions when they reach the floor. And tell them also to support the ideals of a Green New Deal by taking the No Fossil-Fuel Money Pledge. Read our article for lots more info, detailed call scripts, and contact info.

Action #3: Support Oakland public school teachers

Deadline: today through February 5 - Oakland Unified School teachers have worked without a contract for over a year, while dealing with school closures, increased class sizes, and other issues. The Oakland teachers' union (Oakland Education Ass'n) is voting on whether to authorize a strike in February. IEB stands with the teachers and their colleagues in their struggle for a contract that provides good pay for themselves and good schools for Oakland’s children. We've signed onto a letter urging the Oakland City Council to support a resolution in support of the OEA's demands, and we urge you to support OEA too. Read our article for more info and exactly how you can help, whether you live in Oakland or have children in public school or not.

Meet Jim, the new Sean, on Feb. 6

Last year, we wished Sean Elsbernd well in his new position as chief of staff for SF Mayor London Breed. Now, we hope you'll join us for our first meeting with Jim Lazarus, Senator Feinstein's new State Director! Please join us for this meeting on Weds. February 6 at noon, in SF. Sign up here.

Kamala Harris in Oaktown

January 27 was a beautiful Sunday in the East Bay, a great day for our All Member Meeting — but some IEB members skipped the AMM (and our birthday cake!) for a historical event, and attended Oakland native Kamala Harris' Presidential campaign kickoff. Here are their impressions & photos.

And then we were two

Despite the draw of Senator Harris' rally, a mighty group of new & old IEB members gathered on Jan. 27 for our first 2019 All Member Meeting. We enjoyed cake, guest speakers, breakouts, and most importantly a sense of optimism! Read on to learn about our Green New Deal and H.R. 1 discussions.

We Could Not Make This Up

How fantastic that another billionaire has jumped straight into the presidential election ring! America counts herself fortunate that this independent has a deep engagement to the political process and running a no-smear campaign (especially against women electeds). We are confident that the open dialogue in his company reflects his own capacity for listening to diverse opinions.

Yeah right.
