February Newsletter

Greetings Madison Families!

Welcome to February and “I Love to Read” month!

On February 8th we will reveal  to students the One District/One Book, and my hope is that families will find time this month to read it together and/or make it part of your bedtime ritual.  On February 8th, we will send home the book with the youngest in each family.

If your child would like to listen to the chapters read aloud, then visit our district or Madison website on February 8th.

We hope you will join us on Thursday, March 7th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. to celebrate reading at our Family
Literacy Fun Night
.  We will have pizza, fun activities, give-aways and a free book for every student.

Our students in grades K-5 have been working hard completing the winter STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting).  The STAR test measures academic progress, and our teachers have been reviewing and using this data to guide and plan their instruction.

We look forward to sharing this information and the progress report with you at our Parent/Teacher
Conferences on Thursday, February 21 and Tuesday, February 26th from 3-7:30 p.m.
We will send out notices of when you are scheduled for conferences the week of February 3rd.  In the meantime, please continue to communicate any questions or concerns with your child’s teacher.

Thank you for sharing your children with us each day.  We will continue to have high academic and social expectations for them!

Second Grade News

In 2nd grade we recently finished our How To writing projects and have written some winter poems and similes.  In math, we are working on two digit addition and subtraction.  We are getting ready to start our next science unit on balance and motion followed by a social studies unit comparing the past and present.  On Jan. 25, we celebrated our increased reading fluency by hosting a poetry reading in the english only classrooms.

Skyward Attendance

Family Online Attendance Entry

We are excited to announce that Madison Elementary School is now offering the Online Attendance Entry system for parents.  You may log into your Skyward Parent Portal and be able to submit an absence for a specific child, leave a comment for school staff, and share the time frame for the absence - all without calling or sending a note. Our office will then review the online entry and code as excused/unexcused per the Madison Elementary School student handbook. Step-by-step directions can be found HERE.  We welcome your suggestions and comments!

PAKRAT Reading
Each student at Madison is asked to read with an adult each night and have their PAKRAT sheet signed.
