February! The short month, the red month, the month of love, the month where our children really begin to show maturity and grade level advancements in school. I love the month of February. But, I am so glad we do not live in the frigid north. Brrrrr!
Does it feel like you just got your children’s report cards? Well progress reports go home again on Feb 1st for our 2-5 graders.
Do you think it is too cold to be jumping into a pool? Well, not if it is at the LISD natatorium. Second graders will be participating in their water safety lessons the week of February 4, 2019. Where is my life jacket?????
Heart Healthy. The teachers will be participating in the Go Red campaign to bring about women’s heart health awareness the week of Feb 4-8.
Who is your Valentine? On February 14th each class will have the opportunity to exchange their valentines, enjoy a cookie and drink at their class Valentine’s Day party at 2:15. This is an easy party for our room moms; all that is needed is for you to show up. Our fabulous PTA will purchase all the cookies and have them delivered to the classrooms. Please speak with your teachers to see if anything else is needed.
Smile, it’s time for those spring pictures- Friday, February 15th. Remember, these are the ones where you get to see the pictures and then decide if you want to purchase them. We simply ask that you PLEASE return the unpaid for pictures. I love the backgrounds used for the spring pictures; they are always so colorful.
February 18th is a student holiday (oh my goodness, another one), no school.
February 19th starts our Jump Rope for Heart campaign. Watch for information coming home with your students. Mrs. Jordan will have some demonstrations at the PALS assembly on the 1st to expose the students to the wonders of jumping rope. We will also be adding some facts about heart disease much like our informational sessions on MD and Diabetes held earlier this year.
Each year, our PTA nominates a parent and a teacher to receive the PTA Life Time Membership Award. This year’s recipients are Mrs. Carrie Cooper, 4th Grade Teacher, and Julie McGovern, past FME PTA President and longtime volunteer at FME. Congratulations. They will be honored at a banquet on Feb 21.
Grade 1 will also share their musical expertise this month. Two great performances in one month, how lucky can we be? Grade 1 will perform on Wednesday, February 27th at 2:30 and again at 6:30. Hope to see you there.
Look out, here comes our favorite children’s author. Dr. Seuss Day is on Friday, March 1st. I can’t wait to see what Mrs. Thakur, our Librarian, comes up with to make it an exciting day.
FME will hold its first ever Father /Daughter Dance on Friday, March 1st. More information to follow.
Start your engines. The FME Annual Color Run and Carnival is gearing up again for an April 28th family fun date.
The Watch DOGS had 21 men attend the previous Watch DOG meeting!! It was great seeing such interest and we look forward to watching this program grow!
FME has been awarded a special award from TX PTA: The MARS Award—Men Are Really Super.
We’ve been recognized for having over 50 males registered with our PTA. By joining PTA, you are demonstrating that you believe in the importance of your child’s education. You are also enriching their school experience and strengthening commYOUnity. Thank you!
We’ve also met the President’s Challenge from TX PTA for having 50% of our total student enrollment represented with PTA membership.
PTA is our most powerful voice to advocate for our children and education on a state and national level. We are getting closer to having a voice for every child represented at FME through PTA. Thank you choosing to be an Everyday Hero by joining PTA to work towards making every child’s potential become reality.
Hospitality would love more volunteers! The spring gets busier planning and prepping
for Staff Appreciation Week. Would you like to help our FME teachers and staff feel
appreciated? Please email me and I will put you on our list. Helping can range from
bringing in a food or snack item, to getting donations, to making decorations and
decorating, to helping plan Appreciation Week.
If you signed up for Hospitality at the beginning of the year but have not been
receiving the sign up emails, please let me know. I may have made an error entering
your address.
I hope you can join us! We’d love to have you!
Sincerely,
Laurie Gruenloh
