CHECK OUT OUR FEATURE ON

In 2014, an inspired group of neighbors, artists, parents, and community partners banded together to bring Art on Sedgwick to life. Now, we're honored and humbled to have our story in the national news. Thank you to the crew at CBS Evening News for this thoughtful coverage. Click on the image above to watch the story.

OUR ARTISTS IN LOCAL SCHOOLS

What a treat to see some of our favorite artists -- Cecil McDonald Jr., Andy White, and  Kwabena Foli -- teaching local students to create artworks that promote self-care and community awareness. You'll have an opportunity to see the work at our art show on June 1st (and eventually on the fences outside of Manierre Elementary School!).

SATURDAY, JUNE 1  |  3 - 6 PM

Participate in a community dialogue through the artwork and poetry of local students and enjoy a rare glimpse of Edgar Miller artworks courtesy of Edgar Miller Legacy and local collectors.

Kwabena Foli

Kwabena Foli is a multidisciplinary xennial blk artist in visual poetics & performance. He works through digital and public landscapes to address trauma, health, pop culture and social life. Kwabena has been partnering with us on poetry workshops in local schools -- teaching students the joy of saying expressing yourself through metaphor. The poems will which will be exhibited ith the 8th grade class to be displayed outside the school.

Cecil McDonald Jr

Artist and educator Cecil McDonald Jr will be back this spring to lead another art project with students from local schools. Check out this article featured in the Chicago Tribune about his recent art exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Lookingglass Partnership

We're thrilled to have Lookingglass Theatre's Department of Curiosity -- led by founding ensemble member Andy White -- collaborating on our spring art project. They're also offering workshops on the theme of community and making it possible for more neighbors to attend Lookingglass plays!
In addition to our work in the studio classroom and through artist residencies in local schools, Art on Sedgwick manages the programming for the Marshall Field Gardens Community Center. Each week we lead or collaborate on programs with partners to create community and opportunities with residents of the building.  Check out these images from sample events!
PARTNER HIGHLIGHT

FOCUS FAIRIES

Focus Fairies Mentoring works to empower preteen and adolescent girls to be effective leaders, caring citizens, who are self-aware and servants to their communities. The girls love them and we're excited this group continues to grow!
EVENT HIGHLIGHT

SPRING BREAK CAMP

Each year we put on a spring break camp in the community center with activities that are fun, safe, and nourishing to the body and soul. This year, we had X-Box fitness, tumbling, puppet shows, anime drawing, crafts, and a scavenger hunt at the Edgar Miller Glasner Stuidio!

Community art centers don't happen by themselves.
