MAIN OFFICE NEWS
Were you one of the many families that cleared out QFC or Trader Joe's prepping for Snowmageddon? Maybe you purchased a few too many snacks?

When our kids are hungry or forget their snacks for school, Annette and Kristina like to help them out by providing a little sustenance.. If you have a box of goldfish, granola bars, popcorn, or any other nut-free snack, please drop them off at the main office when we're back in school again. Thank you!
SPS NEWS: OPEN ENROLLMENT EXTENDED

Open Enrollment for School Choice for the 2019-20 school year is Feb. 4 - 20, 2019. (Because of snow days the Open Enrollment deadline was extended from Feb. 15 to Wed., Feb. 20) School Choice forms are available online, or at the John Stanford Center.

Open Enrollment is the annual period where students may first apply to attend a different school or program next year.

The school choice period continues until May 31, 2019, but on-time applications are those received during Open Enrollment (Feb. 4 - 20, 2019) and will be processed with applicable tiebreakers. Late choice applications will be accepted through May 31, 2019, but are not eligible for priority tiebreakers.

Open Enrollment results for the 2019-20 school year will be available online in mid-April.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS & DELAYS
Seattle Public Schools often posts school closings and updated information on snow routes on their social media pages and website even before you receive the series of phone calls and texts. If you are on Facebook or Twitter, don't forget to follow Seattle Public Schools.

Second-Chance Registration will open on February 11th at 5:00 pm and will close on February 15th at 5:00 pm (for classes not filled through the lottery process).

If your child did not get their first choice, you'll have another opportunity as MANY of the classes were not paid for before the 5:00, February 8th deadline.

PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT - BIRDS & BEES
Amy Lang is presenting Birds + Bees + Kids on Tuesday, February 26th at 6:30PM in the Catharine Blaine cafeteria. This is a joint Lawton/Blaine event.

This topic will be presented by renowned speaker and parenting expert Amy Lang! The birds and the bees can be tough to talk about but with a little information, some careful thought and planning it is possible to have comfortable and effective conversations that help your kids make good decisions.

You will discover:

*         Why you need to start the conversation way earlier than you think.
*         Who has the most influence over your kids' decision making.
*         The number one way to keep your kids healthy + safe.
*         The best way to start the conversations.
*         Why knowing your values is key to talking to your kids.
*         Tips for making the talks easy, fun and actually happen!

Media-savvy sexuality and parenting expert, Amy Lang, is a regular guest on multiple media outlets and is frequently quoted in print and on the interwebs. She is a fun, smart and sassy guest who connects with parents and professionals with her no BS information and advice. She has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Salon.com, CNN, The Atlantic and the Seattle Times. Amy is a regular on several podcasts like The Savage Lovecast, Tilt Parenting and The New Family.

A highly sought after speaker and trainer, Amy is super-thrilled to have worked with parents and professionals from Alaska to Australia. Organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, The Air Force Youth and Family Services programs, YMCAs and multiple PTAs and preschools have hired her to educate (and, as it turns out, entertain) their staff and parents since 2005. Fun and funny, Amy takes topics most adults feel uncomfortable talking about and makes them easy and approachable.

We look forward to seeing you there!
THANK YOU to Vanessa Gregory for hosting and organizing this year's Kindergarten Tours and to Dr. Deno for presenting what Lawton has to offer. Thank you to Brenda Hatley for opening up her classroom for the evening tour.

Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who answered questions during the morning tours and to the teachers for allowing families to observe your lessons.

This is a reminder that if you have not yet registered your incoming kindergarten student, PLEASE do so BEFORE March.
