RECAP: OMA Massage Therapist Retreat 2018

A Day of Fun, Relaxation & Community!

This year's retreat was another success! We enjoyed experiencing what our work feels like to infusion room patients by setting up hand and foot massage stations, donning gloves and providing one another with massages.  We then were treated to a delicious meal catered by fellow OMA Therapist and Board Member, Wendy Kamasaki.  Finally, we ended the day's festivities with a 3-hour CEU class taught by instructor, Pam Ferguson. We learned about Post Mastectomy Stretching exercises for our clients as well as Acupressure points for various chemo side effects.  These retreats are so special-everyone agreed how beneficial it is to take time each year to be together.

Did you miss our retreat?  Look below for 2019's retreat date and mark your calendar!

We show you how to use the client interview, and common cancer resources to design the safest, most effective massage.

Use our principles and tools to work with people with cancer in any setting, from hospital to franchise. Even seasoned oncology massage therapists have used our strategies to practice with greater ease and success.

OMA's Book Nook
Things I Wish I'd Known
By Deborah Cornwall

Family caregivers are the unsung heroes of the life-saving drama that's triggered by a cancer diagnosis. Nearly three-quarters of American households will find themselves caring for a cancer patient at one point in their lives. This book is the first to capture their thoughts, feelings, and insights on a large scale. It is based on 101 formal interviews with non-professional caregivers (some of whom are cancer survivors themselves), covering 122 patients in 19 states and Canada who ranged in age from 2 to 92 and faced 40 different cancer diagnoses. Practical lessons drawn from caregivers' experiences are intermingled with their own words to forge a compelling narrative intended to help both patients and their family caregivers to understand and cope with the full range of issues they should anticipate as they fight the battle of their lives.
