GOING GREEN TOGETHER
Students created “No Idle” signs for the pick-up lane at school, reminding parents to turn off our engines while we wait. Our cars’ carbon dioxide emissions contribute to global warming. And those walking past idling cars are breathing in polluted air that can cause respiratory issues and aggravate asthma.
Green Tip | Reduce Pollution from Vehicles
Walk/Bike or Carpool/Bus - The best thing you can do to help reduce emissions is to drive less, if possible.
Don’t Idle - With modern engines, it's more fuel-efficient to turn off your engines if you are waiting longer than 10 seconds. Restarting soon after will not damage your engine and you save money by not wasting gasoline. As our wise Baker students point out, "Idling is fuelish!"
Drive efficiently - Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration/braking) also wastes gas. By driving sensibly, you help reduce emissions and save on average $0.50/gallon.
