Habit of the Month

February
Synergize

I value other people's strengths and learn from them.  I get along well with others, even people who are different than me.  I work well in groups.  I seek out other people's ideas because I know that by teaming with others, we can create better solutions than what any one of us could alone.  I look for Third Alternatives.

Parent Tip of the Week:  Working together with others will improve the outcome of a task!

Academic Calendar

School Policy:  Medications at School
It is recognized that medications may be essential for some students.  When possible, medications should be administered at home.

Policy:  If medication must be given at school, it must be sent to school via a parent or guardian with the proper documentation

It is not safe for children to deliver medicine to the school. This policy prevents safety concerns of lost or stolen medicines, students sharing medicines with friends, and students taking medicine unsupervised.

Additional information can be found in SECTION 1500 of the 18-19 Student/Parent Handbook.

Remember to collect all year long!  This year each classroom has a collection goal of 300 each month and 1800 by the end of the year!  Classroom collections will be tallied monthly and for the classes that achieve their monthly goals they will be rewarded!

The winning grade level will win A Snow Ball Fight!
Collection Contest ends March 1, 2019!
Each homeroom class must collect a minimum of 300 Box Tops for the months of January AND February in order to qualify for the contest!  The grade level that collects the most will be the winner!  Winner will be announced on March 2nd.  Don’t forget to use the Box Tops app!

Please follow these simple steps to help make our collection drive run smoothly:

  1. Neatly cut and sort your Box Tops and place into baggies or print a fun collection sheet from HERE and adhere the Box Tops.
  2. Place your child's name and homeroom teacher's name on the baggie or collection sheet so that he/she receives credit.
  3. Baggies can be dropped off in the collection mailbox in the front lobby or with your homeroom teacher.
DID YOU KNOW?  Box Tops expire 4 times a year: March, June, November and December, the 2 big expiration dates are March and November!  The school gets 10 cents for every little unexpired rectangle that is turned in!

"Read" It Forward Book Drive
In the spirit of our school's "Pay It Forward" initiative, Ava A. (7th grade) and our Lutz Prep Library will be hosting a book drive.  Please bring new or gently used books to the Media Center to donate to the Sullivan Partnership/Metropolitan Ministries.  The books may be for Toddlers through Middle School levels (no adult level books, please).  We will begin the book drive on Wednesday, January 16th and end on Friday, March 8th.  We will collect, sort and deliver the books before Spring Break so all the area children will have some great reading during their time away from school.

Update on Donations Drive:  816 new leveled early readers & 282 gently used books that have been donated in the last two weeks.  The grand total is 1,098 books, with several weeks to still collect.

Please take this time to do a little book "Spring Cleaning" and "Read" It Forward!   Presented by:  Ava A. and Mrs. O'Sullivan, Library Coordinator

University of Notre Dame is partnering with high-achieving middle school students…FOR FREE!!!
The Office of Outreach and Engagement Recruitment (OER) aims to identify high-achieving students who have the potential to attend highly selective colleges and universities across the country. Through a focus on character and leadership development, we strive to empower students to hone their natural gifts, ignite their imaginations, and prepare to impact the world for the greater good. We offer an online enrichment program, NDignite Connection, to help high-achieving students navigate middle and high school, learn about various pre-college programs, and ultimately prepare for the admissions process at highly selective colleges and universities through using self-awareness to explore their gifts and talents.

Students may apply to the program at the end of their 6th or 7th grade year. Once participants enter into 9th and 10th grades, they matriculate into the second phase of our program where they connect with current Notre Dame students and engage in discussions with peers weekly about meaningful topics. There is no cost to students or their families to participate in the program. By the end of a student's participation in the NDignite Connection program, they will learn about:
  • life at a highly-selective university
  • the importance of finding the right college fit
  • the pre-college and college application processes
  • how to use their greatest gifts to invest in the lives of others and in their professional careers
