Our Spatial Storytelling Series culminates in a Story Map Competition and Expo. The Expo will take place April 18th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm in Hunt Library, IDeATe Studio B.
Rules & other details
Who can compete?
Any CMU Student, individually or in groups of 2-3 people
What should you submit?
You or your team should submit a story map using either ESRI's ArcGIS Story Maps or knight lab's Story Map JS. A Story map is an online map that presents the viewer with a story. Submissions for the competition will open on February 12th.
What are the criteria to enter?
You must create an interactive map using one of the tools listed above. Your interactive map must include both narrative (i.e., the story) and visualization (the maps). You must include more than one map but focus only on one story. You must include citations to the textual and data materials that you use in your story map.
How can I win?
Step 1: Enter the competition on February 12th.
Step 2: Attend some of the workshops listed above or come to our weekly Office Hours.
Step 3: Submit your finished story map by Wednesday March 20th.
Step: 4 Attend the Expo on April 18th to show off your work and win!
What can I win?
Cash prizes! We will give cash prizes for Best Overall Story Map, Best Visualization and Best Narrative. More to follow on this in February.

Our second workshop in the series was a workshop on Finding Stories in Data, part of the Data 101 series created by the Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center. You can find the workshop materials in their Data 101 Toolkit and many other great resources, especially spatial data, on their website, wprdc.org.
