Wingecarribee Shire Council in partnership with Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness is offering Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training that seeks to increase awareness of cultural difference and to help ensure our working relationships are as effective as they can be. Training will provide an introduction and understanding of the culture of people we interact with, the most appropriate ways of respecting and accommodating people in work interaction, create a basic understanding and awareness of Aboriginal culture, community and history, assist in ‘closing the gap’ between Aboriginal community and Non-Aboriginal society. This week-long intensive writing retreat is offered to women writers and limited to only twelve participants.
The key-note author leading the workshop will be American, Karen Joy Fowler. Karen has written six highly successful novels, including The Jane Austen Book Club, which was adapted into a Hollywood film.
There will also be a guest lecture by local author, Dr Catherine McKinnon, whose book Storyland was short-listed for the 2018 Miles Franklin Award. Find out more

The Sturt School for Wood was established in 1985 as an intensive training place for aspiring fine furniture makers and designers. Over 30 years later the school has built a national and international reputation offering an unrivalled course taught by some of the best fine furniture makers and teachers working in Australia and overseas. Artists include; Isabel Avendano, Chris Bartkus, Phoebe Everill, Ian Factor, Bailey Farmer, Ray Garnsey, Mark Gudgin, Steve Harper, Darryl Ingate, Christopher Neal, Darren Oates, Grant Robertson, Adrian Spano, Ruth Thompson. Saturday February 14 - Australian Haydn Ensemble - Haydn's Nature at the Rose Room Burradoo (3pm) NEW
AHE opens its 2019 season with a string quartet program that celebrates Haydn’s love of the natural world. In our first program, Artistic Director and violinist Skye McIntosh and the AHE quartet explore Haydn and nature. Two of Haydn’s beloved string quartets, Sunrise and The Lark bookend the program. In The Lark, Haydn masterfully weaves the first violin part in joyous birdsong-like melodies that fly above the other instruments. At the heart of the program are selections from two of Haydn’s famous oratorios, The Seasons and The Creation. One of Haydn’s indisputable works of genius, the String Quartet Op. 76 No. 4 (Sunrise) closes the program. Presented by Quintessence, a wind quintet of local musicians who are all members of both the Highlands Sinfonia and the Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra. Their program features Gustav Holst's "Second Suite in F for Military Band" arranged for wind quintet. This popular work is in four movements and is based on seven English folk tunes.
