Ice Hockey Anyone? Cold Weather Wreaks Havoc

Snow settled overnight across the South East. While the Charterhouse groundsmen are doing a fantastic job of clearing it away, the temperature forecast (1 degree until Saturday afternoon) is not cooperating - no U14/16 training tonight at Charterhouse.

And things are looking even more wintery at Broadwater:

No U8-12 training and no Specialist GK training either. So frustrating!

Please check with your Captain/Squad Manager over the weekend for news about fixtures - look out for emails, check twitter and the GHC Home page for updates.

Captains/Squad Managers, send in updates to intouch@guildfordhc.com or 07507559090.
Last Weekend at GHC

The Ladies Section had another Winning Day on Saturday - all five teams won their games: 2-1, 3-2, 3-1, 2-0 and 4-2!!

Fantastic effort from the Ladies - this leaves L1s 7 points clear at the top of their table, L2s 7 points from the top (and 19 points from the bottom!), L3s second in their table, and amazingly the L4s and L5s are 1st and 2nd in their (same) Div 10 table!!

The Men's 1s beat local rivals 4-0 to stay at the top of their league - the rest of the Men's games were much closer with the Shadows and M2s both winning 3-2.

In Junior action on Sunday there were plenty of 7-a-side games (see GU12 match reports, again!) - and hats off to the Girls Under 16s who beat Surbiton in their Premier League fixture.

This Weekend at GHC

We are really hoping to be able to play - but of course this will depend on the state of pitches both home and away.

Please check with your Captain/Squad Manager before leaving home.

Home matches on Saturday include Ladies 1s, 3s and 4s.

Saturday home matches for the Men: Men's 2s, 3s and Pilgrims.

Ladies 1st XI are due to pushback at 13:15 - come and cheer them on!

On Sunday we have six games in England Hockey Cup competitions including the GU16s who welcome Jersey to the mainland for a triangular with Alton. And the BU16s play Guernsey at Alton in their EH Cup T2 fixture.

The BU18s are due to travel to Marlow for their knock-out Cup match. The two sides have already met in league and indoor competition this season so this will be a tough match.

And the Under 10s and 12s are out in numbers getting as much team play as possible ahead of their Surrey Cup and Plate competitions.

Let's hope it can all be played. Our pitch booking Master, Jeremy, has produced Plans A to E based on various states of frost that may occur at both BW and CH - the effort to get as many matches played as possible under changing circumstances is much appreciated!

GHC Outreach Offers Hockey Coaching to Local Schools

Earlier this season GHC started offering hockey coaching to children in local schools where hockey has not been on offer.

We started with small after school programmes at both Weydon and Guildford County schools and have now extended the coaching to 40 players for 10 additional weeks.

We also celebrate our first new joiner from this programme - someone who hadn't played hockey before this opportunity and who has now joined our club!

We also welcome St Peter's in Guildford who last week had their first indoor session with our coaches. And St Peter's primary school in Farnham have also signed up for their first session.

If you know of any local schools that do not offer hockey and may be interested in joining our programme, please contact James Relph.

GHC First Aid Kits - Do You Have One?

Last season the club bought First Aid kits for each team in the club.

We had an up to date list of who had which kit. With changes of Captains and leaders within squads and age groups, the list is no longer up to date.

If you have a First Aid kit, please let Michelle know (for which team/age group).

If you are a Captain or Squad Manager, please let Michelle know who is responsible for your kit.

Thanks in advance so that we can make sure we know where all of the kits are.

Please note that you can re-stock your First Aid kit with Michelle or her helpers on a Friday night at the club.

England Hockey require a form filled in for each injury (no matter how small) so they can track data and trends on injuries across the country - this can lead to rules changes so is really important.

Please fill in the form each time - it takes less than a minute - and hand to Michelle or leave in the office in the clubhouse.
First Aid Courses - New Dates - Book Now

Each squad/team needs good coverage of First Aiders so that at any time there is someone on site with an up to date First Aid certificate.

First Aid courses are available through the Club (
Three year First Aid training including De-fib.

Please email Michelle to let her know if you are interested in becoming a First Aider – courses run in the evenings at the Club.

The dates for the next 'Emergency First Aid at Work' course are
  • Monday 11 & Tuesday 12 February 6pm-9:30pm
You will need to be able to attend both evenings on either course 1 or 2 to complete the course and get the certificate.

The Courses will be taught by AJM First Aid Training

What's On

With the cold weather upon us, please make sure to check the GHC twitter feed for updates to training and matches (GHC tweets show on the Home page of the website if you are not a twitter user).

Captains and Squad Managers, email intouch@guildfordhc.com if you need to share any changes to training or matches (or text 07507559090).

Please remember and also let your opposition know that dogs and smoking are not permitted at Broadwater (Council Laws).

Please also note that the time listed below and on the GHC website Fixtures Live feed for home fixtures is the pushback time. You need to start your match/event at this time and vacate the pitch 75 minutes later to allow the following fixture on-pitch warm-up time so they can start on time.
