Ken DeWaard is a Maine artist that paints both plein air (outdoors on location) and in the studio. He focuses on local harbor scenes capturing the simple waterfront culture where dinghies, lobster traps and tiny houses and shacks on stilts greet the water.
Working waterfront figures are sometimes seen in the distance and shots of pronounced color dance across an otherwise fairly neutral ground of muted shades, drawing the eye to specific areas he doesn’t want you to miss. DeWaard plays with reflections and light using bold brushstroke that emulates movement. He captures the feeling of Maine.
Quiet corners where dilapidated shacks
show years of oceanfront wear or quiet harbors with boats at rest bobbing endlessly while reflecting the warm sun in glowing white accents. Grand open sails and scenic views are all part of the coastal world that DeWaard enjoys capturing. Come meet the
