Briarcreek Executive Board Needs Volunteers

(Note:  This email was sent out with the agenda of an old business meeting email attached.  To avoid confusion, we corrected the email and are resending this call for volunteers).

Dear Neighbor,

We have sent several emails and posts on the neighborhood facebook page and the issue of volunteers has become more dire.  Sherry Fair, the current Briarcreek treasurer, posted the following message and plea for volunteers on our Briarcreek Facebook page, but we are emailing her message for wider distribution:

As of March 1 there will only be one Briarcreek Neighborhood Association executive board position filled. All others will be vacant.

This message is out of frustration and to express how serious this issue is. I have been treasurer for three years and I do not think anyone remembers how long Susie has been serving on the board. This is our one-month notice that we will stop performing all duties of the neighborhood association president and treasurer positions as of February 28, 2019.

We have politely asked and patiently waited for other residents to step up and no one has.  These positions are critical to the health of our neighborhood.

As mentioned in the past, Susie and I will always be available as board advisors for continuity and the Neighborhood Alliance offers a great how-to training course at no cost. Click this link (

One recommendation mentioned in the past is to hire a neighborhood association management group. This would make a substantial dues increase necessary.

A few things to consider and why we need to keep our association strong is:
  • If no one is actively collecting dues and managing the bank accounts - the maintenance, lawn service, and mowing will not be done. Those residents who back up to Britton and Rockwell will be responsible for mowing behind their homes. If this is not done, other residents may report the home owners to the City of Oklahoma City. The City will give the homeowner notice to mow. If it still does not get mowed, the City will come do it and place a lien on the homeowner’s property. This same process applies to the front yards of ALL homes in the neighborhood. (Read this article for more info. https://newsok.com/…/oklahoma-citys-top-five-property-code-…)
  • Without an active board, the entrances will become overgrown and weed infested leading to the decline of Briarcreek’s image and more than likely property values. for all homeowners. The investments we made in the perimeter fence, street lighting and entrances will be to no avail.
  • Part of our goal as a neighborhood association is to also build a community.  Where neighbors know each other.  Our annual neighborhood activities were always a fun way to get together and important part of that goal.  Without someone to organize these events, they don't happen.
We thank you for your consideration. We look forward to residents volunteering to serve on the board of this wonderful community. You can volunteer by emailing info@briarcreekonline.com or be a part of the discussion on the facebook page.

The vacant positions are listed on the board page of the Briarcreek website at briarcreekonline.com and include President, Vice President, Treasurer, Compliance and Newsletter Chair.  The bylaws (also on the Board page) details each positions.  But, click this link for a better and more thorough description.
