(3 February 2019)
Jeremiah 1:4–10 (17–19) 1 Corinthians 12:31b—13:13 Luke 4:31–44
Jesus Has Authority to Forgive Your Sins and Give You Life
Jesus was sent to
“preach the good news of the kingdom of God” (Luke 4:43). His preaching is an epiphany, or manifestation, of God because His Word reveals the authority of His cross and resurrection, by which He has atoned for the sins of the world. By the preaching of His Gospel in every place, He silences the unclean spirits and casts out demons, heals the diseases of body and soul, and restores life and health to His creation (Luke 4:40–41). For the sake of His divine love, He is
“patient and kind” toward us; He
“bears all things,” “endures all things” and delivers up His body to save us (1 Cor. 13:3–4, 7). So also for the sake of His love, He calls and sends His prophets, as ministers of His Word,
“to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant” (Jer. 1:10).

Making a Prayer Request: Home-bound members, those hospitalized, members of the armed forces, and others are frequently remembered in both personal and public prayers. We weep with those who weep; we rejoice with those who rejoice. Are there specific prayer requests to note in this Newsletter, the Sunday Bulletin, or for Sunday's public prayers during the Liturgy? For this Newsletter and the Sunday Bulletin the effort is made to update these weekly. Please contact the church office by phone (253-584-2565) or email:
office@poplakewood.org.
Prayer requests will be kept on the list for two weeks unless otherwise requested. Please help us keep the prayer requests up-to-date with any additions or updates, thank you.
If you wish to talk to Pastor Paul you may call the office at 253-584-2565 to make an appointment or call his cell phone at 630-514-4555 and he can make an appointment with you. If he cannot answer right away please leave a message and he will get back with you as soon as possible. Please keep the calls between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm unless it is an emergency.

LIBRARY NEWS: A fascinating new booklet in our library is
Ernst Swidder, Liturgical Artist. Ernst Swidder was the artist who carved our triptych and designed the other wooden pieces for our sanctuary remodel in 1983: altar, pulpit, baptismal font, credence table. During his life time Mr. Swidder designed liturgical art for many of the local area churches and other worship places. He died in 1998. Three of his seminary classmates have compiled a booklet describing his life, artistic style and the many art works he created, with pictures and locations, including our sanctuary. The booklet is on display in the library and available for checking out.
