Standards: all unit standards
This week we are continuing to learn about Westward Expansion through the Mexican-American War and a review PPT with notes.

For the week of Feb 4th until Feb 15th we will be working on Section 8. These lessons include the topics: Area of Parallelograms, Multiplying Three Fractions, Exponents, Writing Decimals as Fractions, Writing Fractions as Decimals, Comparing Fractions, Finding Information for Fraction Problems, Capacity, Area of a Triangle, Using a Constant Factor.

We will also be working on our big Cross Curriculum unit for Heritage Fair. This year we will be focusing on Pakistan. Please attend the big event on February 15th!

- Group 1: Students are working on Lesson 4 - Mother's advice.They're working on reading the story and learning new grammars.
- Group 2: Working on lessons 4. Learning new vocab. and create different sentences.
- Spelling test on Monday.
- Spelling H.W sheet due Monday.
- Reading log sheet and the story summery are due Monday.

Quran

Group 1

- Students are working on the attributes of the letters.
- Each student H.W. will be written at his/her planner.
- Practice recitation page 22 of surah Al-Baqarah

Group: 2

- Students are working on Al-Qaida An-Nuraniyah lesson 11
- Each student memorization will be written at his/her planner.
- Practice lesson 11

This week, we will discuss citing sources and avoiding plagiarism. We will continue researching topics for Heritage Fair. With any time we have left, we will hopefully be able to finish our work comparing sources in our Journeys books. Vocab quiz on Friday. Week 4 paragraphs for independent reading are also due on Friday. For information about assignments and upcoming due dates, please check the Language Arts Homework section of the 5th-grade website.

This week we will sit up our experiment about photosynthesis. This is an experiment that we will be observing for a couple of weeks. We will also review each cycle of energy that we have talked about to insure that the students understand.

Cool opportunity: UK college of Engineering is having their Engineers Day on February 23 from 9 am to 1 pm

Unit B Ch. 1: Prophets of Islam, Allah SWT sent many prophets to many nations with the message of Tawheed, students learn ways to show respect to all prophets PBU all of them.
