February 2019  |  BLOG  |  BOOK ONLINE

Let's get excited in here!

Hello babes, can you believe we've hit February, it's a Friday and we're in the middle of an epic heatwave!  I love it, but man, it's hard to keep your shit together in 31c heat and not melt!

Check out my tips and tricks below on how to stay cool in the heat, what sales to check out and what's got me all excited in 2019.  x

01. 3 ways to stay stylish in a heatwave

Firstly, avoid black.

1)  Black will asorb the sunlight and keep you toasty warm - not something you need right now.  If you must wear black then make sure your fabric choices are right.

2) Wear light, breathable fabrics like silk or linen. They allow your body to keep cool, you look stylish and they don't retain the heat.  Check out my friends from Airs and Graces range of gorgeous linen clothing - so cool and soft.

3) At night, you can try and put your bed linen in the fridge, then take out before sleep.  I'm going to try this awesome trick tonight with my pillow case!

02. Don't let the sales put you through the ringer

Learn to shop like a pro

Does sale time get you all hot under the collar and excited for more more more?  Well I want to challenge you to keep your money in your wallet until you're damn sure it's something worth buying and not just tempting you because it's cheap!

1) Firstly, keep calm and carry on...yep, jog on by that sale sign in the window and give yourself pause for thought.
Does the item in question make your heart go boom boom boom like a thirteen year old's secret crush, or are you just buying it because it's on sale?
Remove yourself from the temptation and consider your choice.  If you can't stop thinking about it, can make it work for at least THREE other things in your wardrobe and it's a great addition to your wardrobe, then go back in 24 hours and reconsider purchasing it.
But I mean it, can you make it work with THREE other things?

2) Try and keep sales purchases to luxury items or items that you have been lusting after for a long while.
Buy lingerie, cashmere and leather - items that will last the distance, are often timeless in your wardrobe BUT are often prohibitively expensive when you pay retail.
There's nothing like purchasing an incredible classic piece of clothing, on sale, that you know you will repeat wear for a very long
time.  That was me, at Sass and Bide 5 years ago, buying a coat down from $AU850 to $NZ250.  Talk about a party in my wallet kind of feeling.

3) Lastly, don't buy multiples, just because you can.
Do you really need 5 White Tees in that same style?
Don't let the sales force you into sameness.
You're a unique goddess of wisdom and personal style, you don't need to be a cookie cutter.  In the great words of Dr Seuss, "you have brains in your head and feet in your shoes - you can go any direction your choose', so please don't go buying a tonne of one thing, just because it's on sale.
This is a separate situation to when you find a pair of awesome jeans, that fit like a glove, so you buy two pairs.  That's different.  It just is ok. :-)

So take your time if shopping the sale, be mindful, don't mindlessly consume and be an individual of epic proportions sisterhood.  Be sales savvy, not sales silly.  Good luck out there! x

03. What's got me all excited in 2019

This year I pleadge to be more curious, here's what I am amped for...

1. Sustainable Style
This year I'm challenging myself to learn more about sustainable style and how we can all do better to help our environment.  I'm curious how I can mix and match my love of the 'new' with my love of caring for our world, the people who make our clothes and the future we're leaving our kids. I'll be working with, learning from and meeting all sorts of epic women in sustainable fashion to find out more and I'll be sure to share with you what I learn. Thanks for kicking off my education Amy Conlon from @amyjeancreative and to the fabulous Anna Paterson from @everlasting  who brings us the most epic second hand pop up sales, with every item $10 for the first piece and $5 thereafter.  All proceeds go to charity.  I'm here to learn more!

2. Shopping
Sales shopping worth stopping before.  I promise I'm not contradicting myself, but a couple of sales definitely worth stopping for are these two.  They make significant mark downs and sell their recent season range - not items brought in to stock the sales.  Check out the Smith and Caughey sale on right now and always always check out Trelise Cooper and her ranges for theirs.  Both worth waiting for.

3.  My new styling experience is LIVE!
Before I go, I wanted you guys to be the first to know about my latest package.  I've been trialling it with an awesome group of women and now it's ready for everyone to use.  It's called
Stylist in your pocket and for only $20 per month (for a minimum of 6 months), you get me, at your beck and call, 7 days a week, 9am to 9pm online. Better yet, you can be based anywhere in NZ to work with me.

You get to ask me simple style yes/no/maybe/could do better questions and I can help guide you.  Consider me in your bedroom, in the shop changing room or hovering over your shoulder while you online shop.  You shoot me a query on Facebook Messenger, I come back to you asap and boom, your style dilemma is solved.

You can even upgrade to Stylist in your pocket EXTRA - anytime you choose for a mere $50 per request.   This little package of EXTRA gets me hunting out that outfit you can't find, that pair of shoes that you are lusting after or a particular shade of pink skirt, that you MUST have.  I provide you 3-5 options for you go try on and buy or purchase online.  It's super easy, quick and handy.

And if you need more convincing - one of my Stylist in your pocket clients told me recently that I "save her money regularly".
