SHARON PEOPLE - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
January through March
Throughout January and February, local artist Sharon Peoples is undertaking a residency project and series of public workshops in our gallery space exploring the concept of Tuggeranong gardens.
Alongside the chance for Tuggeranong residents to participate in free textile workshops each Wednesday in February, is the opportunity for Canberra artist Sharon Peoples to build on her existing garden and textile concept.
In the Tuggeranong Gardens series of free workshops with local artist Sharon Peoples, participants will learn how to translate their ideas and experiences of domestic or community gardens into textile works. They will have the opportunity to draw on Sharon’s research and experience and will see it all culminate in an exhibition at TAC alongside International Women’s Day in March.
While the workshop places are full, local residents are still welcome to pop into the Arts Centre and say hi to Sharon, observe how she works and chat with her about her Tuggeranong Gardens project. And the Arts Centre is keeping a waiting list of people who would like to take part in the free workshops. Please call 62931443 if you'd like to add your name and number to the list.

WARM PEACHES
14 February - 2 March, 2019
Next month, Gallery Two will be filled with the bright, colorful works of Ellen Sleeman-Taylor – joint winner of Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s 2018 EASS Award.
Sleeman-Taylor won the solo exhibition prize for her graduation piece, Bird Years, after completing Honours in the Sculpture Workshop at the ANU School of Art and Design in 2018.
The work is a playful, interactive sculptural installation in appreciation of the peach emoji. Sleeman-Taylor uses intense colour, multi-layered imagery and three-dimensional forms to mimic the overstimulation of social media.
She depicts what she calls a ‘hyper-mediated life,’ “It shows my interaction with my phone and the digital realm, my interaction to the patterns and animals that surround me in the “analogue” or “real” world, and the deeply obsessive nature of art making,’ Sleeman-Taylor explains.
TAC's Gallery Two offers the ideal presentation of the intricate but large-scale pencil drawing which forms the basis of Sleeman-Taylor’s multimedia exhibition.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 14 February at 6pm and continues until Saturday 2 March, 2019.

MONO | STERO
Exploring identity and culture: February - July
MONO|STEREO is a 6-month theatre development program led by Melbourne-based playwright Didem Caia, which will document the stories of local residents.
Caia will be working with a small group of participants from the Tuggeranong and Woden regions who self-identify as being other to or outside of the mainstream, dominant culture of suburban Canberra.
Through a series of workshops, the participants will explore the intersections and separations between individual identity and collective culture, what it means to belong or not belong to place and how place reflects, challenges or conceals our identities.
The project will result in a set of original monologues, written by Caia, which will form the basis of a ‘Stage 2’ outcome.
